Your issue has all the security system working against you. Did you disconnect the battery? If so you need to do a system reset.

Did you check that the fuel pump is working well and there are no air locks.

mounting method
however you could replace your distributor with a different brand or after market distributor
It would be interesting as to the problem as to why you are contemplating such a drastic move so post it all again with the problems

No their different ,one is a magnet marelli and the other a bosch ,just fit a marigold glove over the dist,cut the ends off the fingers and push the leads through tie the fingers up and the other end around the dist body and you can drive through a rive with no problem

timing marks ? bottom pulley with crank keyway pointing upwards and cam ? sorry just cannot remember offhand but this is a valve free engine ,with no1 at TDC the inlet and exhaust valves are pointing up and out on the no1 then if i remember rightly the mark on camshaft gear is pointing directly in line with the right side of the head ? or is that the peugeot ,if i had a memory ? Sorry just cannjot remember but a 94 has a distributor on the back of the cam and the rotor arm will pointing at the no1 plug lead on the cap .

First you need to get the radiator cleaned up and then fill it up with a good quality coolant and not water and for oil leakge you need to get in touch with a mechanic so that he can replace the oil seals, i also have the same problem with the oil leak and i changed the oil seals and its working fine since then.
