Many things could cause this , get an OBDI reading if possible that might narrow it down , otherwise it could be the crank sensor as a first thought or the ignition coils , would need to be seen by a mechanic for a better diagnosis

the most likely cause of this is the carberater throttle kick up solenoid is defective or the carb deceleration damper is defective, u may one or both of these, have them tested for proper function, u don't have an airflow meter (this engine is not fuel injected) so ignore that mis-directed advice from exper tfrcs68

The warning lights on the dash will come on when the engine dies.
If it dies and starts up like you turned the key it could be a relay or other electrical problem. May be tough to find if you can't test components while it is not starting.
I assume the check engine light is not on when the engine is running.
