Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

Car randomly intermittently jerks while driving, also feels like it drags a bit. Engine management light comes on. Had warning scanned and it came up as a problem with coil pack. However they are new and tested fine. Also recently had all spark plugs replaced and a few weeks ago had a new ecu fitted due to misfiring. Took it to garage but they said they can't do anything till problem is more persistent. Any advice would be appreciated. Fiat punto m3.

It appears you may have a bad ignition coil that cuts out after it gets hot. Not uncommon.

Mazda 626 (1994) Random intermittant stalling

The first thing you need done here is to have the dealer or a shop scan the ECM (computer) for fault codes, this could be just a defective electronic engine control sensor like a crankshaft sensor or a defective ICM (ignition module). So before you do anything else have the scan done with the special scan tool required.

I have a peugeot 307 HDi 2002. the esp warning light is coming on intermittently. When I am steering round to the right it flashes on and the engine drags... it only happens sometimes and only when I am...

The esp light coming on is indicating a fault......therefore a trouble code should be recorded within th ecu.......i would assume that a possible wheel sensor is intermittently faulty..but it is hard to come up with the left hand one or the right hand one.......if you take the car to a mechanic they should be able to connect a scan tool, which will provide you with a trouble code.....which will point you in the direction of the fault

Check engine light intermittently flashing, car jerking.

Could be fuel or electrical related. Since you may not know the history, this may take a while.
Any amount of smoke from exhaust? White, Blue, Black?
Start with most obvious and inexpensive:
1. Fuel filer clogged (replace fuel filter).
2. Could be the ECM (Electronic Control Module). It controls the ignition spark timing.
A few other things... consider other expert solutions...

Engine management light intermittently comes on after rain or carwash. Light goes off after a day or two 'drying out'. No obvious running problems but I'm concerned that it may try to warn me of something...

The only thing that comes to mind is the fuel cap. The management system is designed to flash a warning for 2 key cylcles and then remain constant to warn driver if the gas cap is loose, P0440 will then be stored in the hard drive(major leak in evap. system) Are you having fuel put in the vehicle at the time the light is coming on? You should have the vehicle scanned for codes at an authorized repair shop.

WHEN THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT COMES ON YOUR MANUAL NORMALLY SAYS TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, AND THE STALLING IS PROBABLY A LIMP HOME MODE
