Changing the battery in the remote is the obvious answer, but I considering a scenario of being in a situation where the remote does not work, I don't have access to a battery, I can get in the car with the hard key, but will the hard key start the car? I cannot fine an access port for the hard key.

SOURCE: remote car key not working to unlock car. it does

Most likely the remote is the culprit. It sending a signal and the body control module is receiving it so that eliminates the remainder of the system. If you have two remotes then try the other one.If not, you can go to your nearest dealership and they have a remote checker. They can set the remote on it and push the buttons and it will light up if all the buttons are working on your remote.Hope this information helps,

If your check engine light is on or you have low oil pressure, the ecu will not let the vehicle remote start. All of the doors must be locked, and the hood cannot be open. Are all of your doors locking remotely before you try to remote start the vehicle?

What type of vehicle do you have. If your talking about remote start try new batteries in font. The key itself should let In and start the car. Don't know what part of world your from but if it's below freezing the key cylinder could be frozen.

Yes, your key should unlock the door even if the remote doesn't work.

I hope this helps.

How can desactivate my alarm in my 99 montero?

Try pressing the lock button on your door then close the door then use your key to get back in, not the remote. If that doesn't work then close all doors, turn your key 1/4 towards ignition, press and hold the flashing red alarm light for 5 seconds and this should disarm the system and allow you to start the vehicle.

Not knowing exactly which vehicle you have this is all I can think of. Hope it helps.

If the key works in all of the locks, it is the Master key. I think GM is the only manufacturer still using a different key for ignition.
In the mid-90's, remote locks were still an option, not a standard feature. Perhaps the easiest way to check whether your vehicle has that option is to ask a dealer to look it up using the VIN, unless you find a remote lock receiver in the vehicle (sorry, I don't know where it is normally installed). If you have a remote lock system, you can use the VIN to order a replacement, but it won't be cheap.
Alternatively, you can have an aftermarket remote lock system installed. Many of these include remote start as well - this is nice for getting the vehicle pre-warmed on cold winter mornings.

I know that this procedure work for Grand Prix and Monte Carlo, tesi it...

KEY FOB PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS
Transmitter Programming
No Tools Required
In the event that a transmitter is lost, program the old and the new transmitters into the memory of the remote control door lock receiver. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

Important
Once the keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter could possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

Perform the following steps:
Sit in the vehicle driver's seat. (actually it’s much ezr from the front pass seat)
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the vehicle's doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Electronic Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder OFF, then back to ACC within 1 second.
Open and then close any vehicle door. You will hear a chime when the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode. If you do not hear a chime, start again at step 1.

Important
After 7 seconds, you may hear a chime confirming successful synchronization. After approximately 14 seconds, you will hear a chime confirming successful programming.

Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
Repeat step 8 in order to program each additional transmitter.

Hope helps.

NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM A REMOTE PAD FOR A MAZDA 626 EX 1995 PLEASE I REPLACED THE BATTERIES AND EVER SINCE THEN THE REMOTE DONT WORK

1. Remove key from ignition.
2. Close all doors.
3. Open driver side door and leave open.
4. Insert key in ignition, Turn key to ON (as far as you can go without starting the engine) and OFF, Remove Key.
5. Repeat step 4 two more times, making sure you remove key each time.
6. Close and then open the driver’s door three times.
7. Buzz sound or chime should be heard at this point signaling that the vehicle is now in programming mode. If not,
wait 40 seconds and return to step 1.

8. All transmitters need to be programmed at this time, including the old ones. Push any button on a transmitter two
times. A buzz sound to chime should be heard at this point signaling that the vehicle has accepted the new
transmitter code. Repeat for next transmitter, up to a total of three remotes (including any old remotes).

9. After all remotes are programmed, wait 15 seconds or until you hear four chimes signaling successful
programming.

Good luck and this should work.
