1999 vw bug 2.0. Was driving home car just stop running. Tenchen pulley locked up. The belt didn't break, just rolled to the back. Changed pulley and belt. Still won't start. Fuel pump is running. Can you help?

I recommend that you do not add this to your radiator unless it is absolutely needed. It will seal the leak, but also seal other passages,especially in the heater core. It will cause more damage in the long run. If the radiator is leaking, replace the radiator.

Why does serpentine. belt keep breaking?


Any one of the the pulleys down in front can do it. All the pulleys should turn freely. Except the lowest, center on. It is the crankshaft.

Your serpentine belt tensioner may be bad,not holding enough tensioner and not letting your alternator keep a charge on your battery,get some one to sit in your vehicle,open hood,have them start it while you watch the belts turn and have them rev the engine up to see if the belt turns loosely.another thing to look at is the A.C.compressor locking up .Power steering pump could be locking up,just check it out while it's running and see.

The idle pulley of the timing belt has broken and the timing belt came off while driving , my question is does the head get damaged ?and can I put a new timing belt with the whole kit ?


Your engine is an interference engine. That means that if the timing belt breaks or comes off, the pistons will contact the valves and bend/break them. Sorry to deliver the news but I have not yet seen one that the belt came off of that didn't get damaged. It is also possible that the pistons were damaged, so if you choose to repair it make sure they are not.

1. Viscous coupling removal (lock the viscous coupling).

2. Lock the ancillary drive belt tensioner.

I have a 97 ford explorer limited awd v8 and when I was driving it made a loud pop and started making a loud squealing sound. I put a new belt on and it wont start I charge my battery and my belt stops...


Sounds like you have a pulley locked up. Did the belt break? If not, it could have just flowed over the locked pulley without breaking. Take the belt off and spin check all the pulley's. You will find it. Was you running the air compressor?

Align marks on timing belt pulley and pump body.

  1. Align marks on camshaft pulleys with alignment marks on seal plate.
  2. Install timing belt. NOTE: No looseness should exist on the tension side and at the camshaft pulleys.
  3. Loosen tensioner lock bolt.
  4. Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of rotation and check that timing marks are still in alignment.
  5. Tighten timing belt tension lock bolt to 27-38 ft lb (32-52 Nm).
  6. Apply a force of 22 lbs to timing belt between camshaft sprockets.
  7. Belt deflection should measure 0.30-0.33 in (7.5-8.5 mm)
  8. NOTE: Replace tensioner spring if timing belt deflection is excessive.

  1. Install lower timing belt cover.
  2. Install upper timing belt cover.
  3. Install power steering drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  4. Install fan pulley.
  5. Install generator drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  6. Install A/C drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  7. Install splash guard.
  8. Install fan and fan shroud.
  9. Install 4 fan bolts. Tighten to 24 ft lb (33 Nm).
  10. Install fan shroud mounting bolts.
  11. Install fresh air duct.
  12. Connect hose to resonance chamber.
  13. Connect battery negative cable.

1. check they are not too tight. you should be able to push finger into longest free length of belt by about 1 cm.

2. check belt is not too loose as can overheat and break off.

3. check no grease or oil on belt pulleys. belt can slip and overheat and break

4. turn on engine when you install belt check to see that all pulleys attached to the belt turns. if one of the pulleys is seized and wont' turn properly, can overheat belt.

5. check pulley surface for cracks. must be smooth.

6. finally are your belts the correct width?
