I presume the serpentine belt is in the way. First, disconnect the battery terminal. Then make sure the serpentine belt diagram is readable and remove the serpentine belt. Then release the tension on the alternator belt and remove all the bolts and wiring.

Alternator location on a 2010Toyota tundra

if you open the hood standing in the middle of truck, facing towards the windshield, split the motor in half, the alternator should be left of center of motor, it is round, it has a pulley it may have 1 or 2 belts or 1 serpentine belt, if it is a serpentine belt you are going to need a tool call serpentine belt tool kit, long bar with a socket on the bar, set of different sizes of sockets to fit the spring load device that hold the serpentine belt in place. on top of alternator is a wire connector with 2-3 wires that connect to the starter and battery, and bolt with connector for ground that is bolted on the back side of alternator, 2-3 bolts that hold the alternator in place, remove bolts, take it auto parts store have them test it before buying a new one.

2000 tundra engine doesn't start only one "click" sound

Sounds like battery is dead or low on charge possibly from bad battery connections or bad alternator. Check cranking and charging systems.

2000 Tundra why I only hear click sound and nothing start the engine ?

The battery is probably dead and/or bad. Could be corroded battery cable connections. If not any of these then the alternator might be bad (not charging the battery) or the voltage regulator or start relay could be the problem. The start might be bad also.

"can't get alternator out" 2000 tundra

Make sure all the bolts are removed and the belt has been taken off. You may want to pull it out from the bottom.

Are the timing belt and the serpentine belt the same thing?

No. The timing belt is a toothed belt that drives the camshaft via sprockets on the camshaft and crankshaft; and it is located behind the timing cover and not visible until the cover is removed. The serpentine belt is a long ribbed belt that drives the accessories on the engine, e.g.: the alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor etc. It is in the open and visible.

How to replace alternator on 2007 toyota tundra

Hi. Please see procedure below:

Determine which alternator your Toyota Tundra will need. You'll want to be sure the new alternator is compatible with your Tundra's engine. Models built from 2000 to 2004 have a 3.4 L or 4.7 L engine. Models made from 2005 to 2006 offer options for a 4.0 L or 4.7 L engine. Starting in 2007, the Tundra is available with 4.0 L, 4.7 L and 5.7 L engines.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the gravel shield if you need to access the alternator from under the car. Remove the electrical connector and unfasten the retaining nut on the alternator terminal with a socket wrench. This will allow you to remove the battery terminal wire.

Unfasten the lock nut, pivot bolt and adjusting bolt on the alternator with a socket wrench. Remove the drive belt and take the alternator off the vehicle.

Install the new alternator assembly. Use a torque wrench to tighten the lock nut to 25 ft. lbs. and the pivot bolt to 38 ft. lbs. Attach the adjusting bolt.

Connect the electrical harness and battery terminal wire to the alternator and fasten the retaining nut to the alternator terminal with a socket wrench. Install the gravel shield if you removed it. Replace the drive belt and restore it to the proper tension. Reconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

Thanks!
