THE BANDS ARE SLIPPING AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. MAKE SURE THE FLUIDS ARE UP TO THEIR SPECIFIED LEVEL.

97 aurora shifts fine in 1st thru 3rd and under 45 mph, then over that speed will go into OD but slips over 45 mph, any ideas??

If the AFT fluid level is ok then the only thing that would cause this is that the transmission has failed, the clutches are burnt up or worn out, the transmission will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

There is no way to tell what is going on without removing the pan and inspecting the valve bodies and clutch plates as well as the torgue converter. But if your wanting to salvage the transmission the best way to have this done is through a repitable transmission repair service. There they can do the inspection as well as replace the filter and fluids which have to be done anyway an a regular basis about every 60000 miles, if you have not had this done there may just be an issue with the filter and fluid which can cause irratic shifting. My best advice is to have the transmission serviced and while they are doing this have them inspect for any damage and get repair and a price quote. Make sure it is someone who you can trust or at least make your best bet, transmission repair places tend to want to replace transmissions that can be repaired!

I own a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4wd that is on its 3rd transmission and I'm having the same issue where when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear it's slipping badly my rpm's rev up to 3500 and I have to take my foot...

this is a known issue with the gm 4L60E transmission. the valve body in transmission causes this. if it is wore, then less fluid is sent to shift selonoids. thus causing torque convertor not to lock up, and this causes slipping. if it slips 2 consecutive trips then the transmission detects this and should turn on check engine light. ( p1870 ). you can see if the tcc solinoid is bad. but if not its usually the valve body in tranny.

I have a 96 aurora and every time i drive it wont shift in to 3rd gear

It just won't shift to 3rd or shifts into neutral after 2nd? The 4t80E transmission is known for breaking the bracket that holds the shift solenoids.

Wrong fuel level.

The fuel sending unit is probably bad, and that is in the gas tank, which has to be dropped to get at.

reading what your saying, the problem started when you topped up with fluid; from experience what you have done is over filled the system which can build up high pressure and burst the oil seals and contamanate the drive plate.if your happy with what youve removed it might come back ok.but i suspect burst oil seal failure causing contamanation. thanks adrian

Unfortunate all that is available for transmissions for the 1995 and 1996 aurora are the 1995 and 1996 year! The transmissions fron any other year are not compatible or interchangable on the 95-96 years!
