I have a 1998 firebird that trys to die when you stop, then reves the engine by it's self.

Reves by it's self , that's the PCM/ECM - engine computer controlling the IAC - idle air control valve . Try some injector cleaner ,fuel system cleaner !

1.Can a flashing hold light/faulty mass air flow sensor burn the clutches in a transmission? 2.if vehicle reves out after changing into second gear and transmission is rebuilt and problem still persist...

The ecm would not cause this, it sounds like someone did a poor rebuild, if the engining is reving and the car doesnt what to go then the clutches may be bad, a mass are flow would not cause a trany to go bad, the flashing hold light is a problem but should not be happening after the trany was just rebuilt, something is not right here, the trany was just rebuilt and now the hold light flashes and the motor rev going into 2nd gear, that trany has problems a bad ecm wouuldnt cause this slipping reving problem you are having , i would have a trany shop check to see if that trany was really rebuit.

My car reves very loud when I put it in park

The rattle is probably an exhaust pipe rattling on the axle or a heat-shield ready to fall off. Remove shield completely or put a hanger to take exhaust off of the rear axle.

The rev increase is probably the throttle positioning sensor or the Speed Sensor.
Prior to replacing you should check the wiring carefully for frays and breaks near the ECM (Computer) or a vacuum leak on the engine somewhere.

If your ECM is behind the passenger headlight at the bottom then it is exposed to the weather and the brackets holding the ECM get loose or it moves around and frays the wires in this location leading to the ECM or the connectors to the ECM get corroded.  Carefully inspect these and replace that part of the harness - One may even get a long harness piece and move the ECM to the top of the Engine out of the weather elements.
Hope this helps.
