Sounds like your starter. Is your battery charged?

Yes it is. Its a brand new battery too.

Just hoping it has 1 more start in it so I can get it to my mechanic without it being towed.

Try boosting it. Sometimes the extra power will help a bad starter get over the hump.

Got it started. But then it was revving to high in idle. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Turn ignition key but won't start..All power on, is it starter?

Can be a Junk Relay, access is limited, but giving the Starter a "crack" with a mallet, often cures the problem temporarily. But check the Battery terminals, and Cable to the Starter solenoid ,first for tightness and security.

SOURCE: How many starter relays on a 96 VW Jetta

It might be ignition switch , they do go bad a lot on this cars.
Try to turn key all the way to the limit and still give it some push when you try to start the engine.
If it starts , you need new ignition switch.

Have 2000 VW Jetta, turning signal stops working intermittently. starts signal then stops blinking during turn or sometimes it works fine, sometimes won/t. all bulbs working & all other functions on...

I pulled my switch out of the dash and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Air dry and put back in. 2 years without a problem. If you're not electrical savy, I'm pretty sure there was a recall on that, and it should be replaced for free.
