How do I know if my Mallory distributor vacuum advance is working correctly ?


use a source of vacuum on distributor and idle should increase, or just suck on a hose connected to vacuum advance, use a timing light and you will see a change in degrees .also use a vacuum gauge to check amount of vacuum is being applied.

I'm unclear about your question but Ill take a shot and say it could be a M.A.F. censor located on the hose going to your air filter box but you should get your battery and charging system tested first before you do anything else, most anywhere will do this for free

Bad vibration when in gear but idle speed


I'm not sure exactly which vehicle you have so I'll try to be genera yet as specific as possible to help you determine the problem. I'm assuming here its a Gas Fuel engine.

1.) if its a carburetor type engine, You may need to adjust the RPM to increase or lower the Idle. Its commonly called the Ideal screw and adjust the air fuel ratio to stabilize the engine fuel mixture to increase the RPM.. its found on the Carburetor.

2.) ts fuel injected you will need to adjust the throttle body position to archive the same effect.

if it has a distributor , you can turn the distributor as well to adjust the RPM.


rough idling is usually caused by Mounts, since you changed yours the next most likely issue is the RPM itself or idling speed / rpm. If its to low you ill have that issue.

other possible cause is the distributor points (if any).. bad plugs, bad plug wires.. but those cause other issues while driving as well.

Remove distributor cap have someone tap the key while you watch the rotor inside the distributor if it does not move that is the problem then it could be the gear shear pin has broke or cam is not turning distributor.

Did you also change the Coolant Temperature Sensor? If it is reading wrong, the computer may not realize the engine is cold, and won't increase the gas for that.
Spray some carb cleaner around the outside of the throttle shaft, if engine speed increases, that could be a vacuum leak. I've never heard of that, but anything is possible. It sounds like it would have to be a serious air or vacuum leak to cause your problem. Have you blocked off the power brake booster to check if that is leaking?

You might want to do a compression test to see if there is any internal mechanical damage.

Dirty MAF Sensor

Old Spark Plugs

If you give it gas, you increase vacuum, so a leak has less effect
on fuel trim than at idle

If it is fuel trim as in slow O2 sensors alone ,again it is masked
for awhile with extra fuel taking away the added air from a vacuum leak

I need the firing order for a 93 chevy blazer distributor.where is number 1?


Firing order for a 4.3 liter v6 1-6-5-4-3-2

#1 piston is the first spark plug drivers side front of engine.
Passenger side cylinders are 2 4 6
Drivers side cylinders are 1 3 5
Distributor rotates clockwise and the starting spot is marked with a 1 on the top of the distributor cap.
Make sure you note the position of the 1 on the old cap before you take it off so you don't rotate the new one 180 out

That is usaully the vacuum advance diaphram on the distributor. Its job to advance the distributor when at idle. The diaphrams inside rot and leak air, causing it not to advance. Take off the distributor cap and use a vacuum pump to individualy test each port (two of them) on the vacuum advance diaphram. You should see it pull back, if not replace it. They are sold at your local auto store, oddly its cheaper to get a whole distributor that has one for $100 that to get it alone for $150.
