I drove through deep water recently. the car did not stall nor did I experience any electronic issues since then. problem is that when i entered the water (couldn't judge the depth due to darkness) the water entered where my feet were on driver side. i immediately backed out and kept driving. The next day it sounded like my car was gargling when i accelerated. The floor in my car remained wet until about yesterday (2 weeks). The car smells like mildew and the annoying acceleration noise has not gone away. Again, everything else is fine. What do i do? 2011 Nissan Maxima. I appreciate any feedback.

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.

You need to have your engine flushed and cleaned out. One or more of your spark plugs aint firing. You need to replace them all to include the wires as well. If you dont get your engine flushed, you could blow your engine up.

I had this problem and it took an engineer from Nissan Headquarters to fix it. You may have a belt of wires from behind the dash that have been worn and are causing a short. When the car is wet, the sound can be worse.

You need to have the dealer test the electronic engine control for fault codes, you may have damaged or shorted a component.

Drove car thru deep puddle. Car stalled and won't restart.

A car will stall when driven through standing water if the ignition system is not watertight. Worn spark plug wires and coil wire, improperly seated spark plug wires, or loose distributor cap are all possibilities.
There is a spray called CRC or some agent that promotes a water drying action can be used to dry out a wet distributor cap and wires. Drying off the electrical components will remove the moisture that is grounding the electrical energy that should normally go directly to the spark plugs.
If car will not restart after stalling from the water splashing as described in the question - and the poor condition of the electrical system is ruled out, some water may have passed through the air intake into the engine and perhaps into the cylinder. If this happens have the car towed to a repair shop where they can remove the water before any further damage results. This condition is not easy to occur but a real deep puddle can set the stage for water to be sucked into the air intake and pass through the filter into the intake and through the valves into the cylinders. This is why you see a Hummer with a snorkel - for wading through deep water
