It could be a bad radiator cap. If the cap isn't sealing or releasing correctly it can cause coolant to siphon excessively out of the overflow tube. It is also possible that the discharge from the overflow tube is normal and coolant is being consumed by engine overheating, a leaking head gasket or a coolant system leak elsewhere.

How do I fix a coolant leak


Find leak soon, low coolant will kill a diesel. Keep coolant level correct. Inspect very carefully with a bright flashlight. I like the new Led lights. Look for wet areas radiator hoses, heater hoses water (coolant) pump and Heater coil inside. Do you have any bubbling in the coolant fill tank when engine is running? If so you probably have a Head Gasket failure.

How do i change the radiator fluid?


Most radiators have a drain plug on the bottom tank the engine block also has a drain plug . Remove the radiator cap ,open both drains ,let all the coolant run out, if there is no radiator plug remove the lower hose , remove the heater demister hoses, with the heater control on hot flush out all the coolant from the heater radiator. with a garden hose, till the water runs clean, tighten the radiator plug or re fit the hose,put a garden hose into the radiator and flush out till the water at the block plug runs clean ,refit the heater hoses, refit the block plug, fill the radiator from the hose leave the cap off , If it has a overflow tank clean and flush it. start and run engine for 5 minutes top up radiator if needed . stop engine and drain out all water. most important that all old coolant is drained out, only buy the best coolant you can . If you make up your own use only distilled water. keep some to top up with never mix with another brand. Fill radiator with coolant top up over flow tank, run engine top up coolant as needed, refit radiator cap run for another 10 minutes check for leaks,

How to bleed the cooling system


There should be bleed screws on the hoses if it doesnt self bleed, usually small black plastic circular disks with a flat screw head in the center. Run the car to temperature and release them slowly and only keep them a couple of threads open and you will see steam, keep it open until coolant starts to come out then close, do this to them all. If it doesnt have bleed screws I usually start the car with the radiator or expansion cap off and squeeze the hoses by hand, you will hear it gurgling as the air is replaced by coolant, keep working the hoses until they feel full of coolant. Replace the cap and run the engine at high rpm for about 30 secs. Hope it helps.

This sounds as if you have air in the system, you will need to bleed it. Take the radiator cap or coolant expansion cap off, with engine turned off, Now squeeze the bottom hose, and the top hose continually until you see bubbles appear ,the coolant level should momentarily rise and then fall when you release the hose, do this to all the hoses ie, heater hoses as well as the top and bottom hoses, keep doing this until no bubbles appear, by this time the coolant level should have dropped,then start the engine and run at tickover until the coolant level stabilizes,turn off engine and top up coolant to the level,refit cap and run to operating temperature. If this does'nt cure the problem the chances are that the system is drawing in air , but thats another problem! hope that helps

I have a 93 stealth keeps running hot my mac. Said it was waterpump so had him change it I changed redaitor . And thrumosat. All hoses I do have fans wire full blast. Is that bad just didn't want it to...


Good idea on the fans. Keep it that way till you fix the problem. Won't hurt anything, just may shorten fan life-but a new fan is much less expensive than a new engine.
Watch the temp gauge on your dash. The thermostat should open as it warms up, before the gauge gets up to half-way. You can tell when the thermostat starts to open-the upper radiator hose will start feeling hot, or at least start warming up. You will get a rough idea if the thermostat is working properly. By the time engine is at normal operating temperature, the thermostat should be fully open and the hose will feel quite warm. If the hose is still cool when engine is at operating temp., the thermostat may be opening too late, as in wrong thermostat. Not very likely, but always possible.
How did the shop check the head gaskets? Did they do a compression test? With new pump, new radiator, new hoses...should be good, but still runs hot? Any bubbling in your overflow tank? You may want to consider having a block test done, where they check for exhaust gases in the coolant. That would be a head gasket leak causing hot running condition. Maybe the shop checked the gaskets this way, or maybe they missed something? About the only other thing I could think of would be a coolant circulation problem inside the engine, a restriction or something, that an engine flush might clear up. A shop could do a reverse flush of the engine if there is a circulation problem.

Where is the thermostat on a 1995 1.8 liter toyota carroolla


The thermostat is located in the housing that the lower radiator hose goes on to, if you follow the lower hose from the radiator to the engine , remove the hose from engine by removing the clamp and sliding hose off. You will need a container to catch the coolant that will run out when the hose is removed, to do this a little neater, locate the drian valve on the bottom of the radiator and just turn to loosen valve and drain coolant there first, make sure to remove the rad cap to drian cooling system better. also keep container under the hose you remove to catch the small amount of coolant that will flow out and once the thermostat is removed coolant will run out from engine. with the hose off you will see 2nuts to move and then housing comes off and theres the thermostat. Hope this is helpful.

good likely hood that your oil cooler is leaking oil into coolant this is something you want to replace as soon as possible. you will have to flush your coolant system several times to get as much of the oil out as possible. if you wait you will have severe temp issues as well as not heat due to a clogged heater core. and that is very hard to replace. To flush system hook garden hose to the larger hose of the coolant reservoir get car up to temp. keep idle up a little. get large bucket from the smaller hose that goes into the reservoir hook small hose to it and let it empty into bucket keep hose running thru all the time. before that though replace oil cooler. also replace coolant reservoir as well. or oil will contaminate new coolant. good luck

How do i refill the coolant in the car after replacing upper hose


hello, your car has a reservoir tank were you put the coolant in at all you have to do is start your car and it'll draw coolant from there after your car runs a few minutes check your coolant reservoir tank it;ll probably be close to empty also since you took your hose off you'll have air in your system that you'll need to bleed out of the system otherwise your car will over heat and you wont get proper coolant flow the bleeder valve is a small brass bolt that you can use a wrench to open and close it with, with your car running just open the valve until you see coolant flow out then close it do this till you get a solid stream of coolant flow and check your reservoir often while doing this keep it full.

Hey iisha, although obvious, 1st thing to check is the coolant level. If it's low, the engine will run hot and the low level prevents coolant from circulating to the heater core inside the car, so the result is little or no heat, but engine running hot situation. The top rad. hose takes hot coolant from the engine, it flows down thru the radiator where it is cooled (w/ help from the fan) and the coolant returns to the engine at a reduced temp. to keep the temp under control, and it's returned thru the bottom hose (the result is the bottom hose should be cooler thant the top. There's more involved than that, so 1st check your coolant level, if it's ok let me know I'll help further. Hopefully the fix is that simple, and it is a rather common problem.
