Engine started then died, now it won't start. What could be wrong?

Have not done anything. Fuel lines and electric wire seem to be intact. Engine was running yesterday with no problems. It has been raining, but there is no indication of water in engine area.

As you say it was raining , It would indicate an electrical problem with ignition , check the earth connections and that you have a spark

SOURCE: ford f350 7.3l diesel carnks but won't start

Check your battery voltage while cranking. If it's too low, the electronics won't work and the injectors won't fire. If the batteries are down a bit, there won't be enough power to turn the engine over fast enough to start. It needs a minimum of 100 rpm and 8 volts while cranking. You also might try waiting till you're sure the GPR has dropped out. That takes the GP load off the batteries and may get the voltage up enough to get it to start, oh and also does the tach move when you're cranking? If not, then chances are the CPS is the culprit.

SOURCE: Ranger fuel problem

There is a fuel cutoff switch on the passengerside floorboard, towards the right kick pannel, there will be a little red button on top of it, check to see if that is tripped, also when you turn the key to the on position listen to see if you hear the fuel pump prime up, just a short buzzing noise from the underside of the cab, if you dont hear it, that is a good indicator that your fuel pump maybe bad, i would also check the pressure at the fuel rail, chrome or black colored bar located near the fuel injectors.

SOURCE: engine will not start.fuel pump

start by checking the fuel pump fuse and relay. will the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key to the run position? If so you may need to replace the crank position sensor. When this goes bad the engine will turn over and start, but only run for a second or two then die like its out of gas.

If you do not hear the fuel pump coming on and the fuse and relay check out good then you will have to see if there is power going to the fuel pump. if power is present at the fuel pump plug then the fuel pump is bad

Engine won't start

No it doesn't seem like anything

You have to test something to confirm
that statement

You either have spark & injector pulse or you don't

You have fuel pressure & volume at the motor or you don't

You have even compression in all cylinders & equal contribution
or you don't

Share your test results if you need help

2002 honda civic turns over but won't start; not fuel pump or timing belt

Not to sound sarcastic, but I would start with a different mechanic.
Diagnosing a no-start situation requires a basic list of possible causes which we eliminate. You start with spark and fuel and go down the list.
If it has spark, fuel, and compression, it should start. It has to be missing one of the three elements.
It takes time to check every component and go down the list, but that is how its done. You have to check the components one by one.
So, does it have fuel pressure to the injectors?
Does it have spark to the plugs ?
Is the cam timing correct ?
Are the plugs fuel fouled ? Can you spray starting fluid into the intake and get the engine to try to start ?
Has anyone checked the computer for trouble codes ?
Does the engine sound like it has normal compression?

I'm having trouble starting the car. When it idols the RPM's pulsates up-and-down and then it stalls. Once under way the car seems to run fine but without any warning it will die as I start to

check air filter, might be plugged, [dirty so engine is starving for air.] check fuel lines & filters, dirt blockage need replaceing, check for fuel leaks in lines etc, uses fuel & then sucks air causing it to stop, listen to see if fuel pump is running properly & not stuttering could be short in it's wiring

My car won't start n I'm running out of options?

Well I see you are changing several things with no success. To start with you need to narrow down what is missing. It takes 2 things in order for an engine to start. Fuel and spark to the spark plugs. You need to find out what is missing for beginners (spark or fuel) and then work on the problem. Your fuel pump is running so I'm guessing it's a spark issue. You could also be getting fuel up to the fuel rail or injectors nut you may be dealing with the injectors not working. So for starters find out what your missing and then diagnose the problem from there instaed of changing fuel and electrical parts until you know. If you have any questions you can reply here or email me directly at csautomotivecars@att.net. Knowing the year, make, model and engine size would help though. Hope this helps you a litle in any case.

every possibility that the timing ( firing order) is wrong from what you describe
bring the engine to tdc no1 piston on compression and that is no 1 plug lead in the distributor cap

I can't get my land rover discovery 1999 to start!I go to turn it over and it acts like it wants to start but it won't.I have replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump, put a new battery in it,and a start

Sounds like a dead short between the starter and the battery. Check the cables under the hood for anything that has rubbed through.

However, it is more likely to be the control line to the solenoid that is shorting out. Trace that line from the solenoid up to the firewall first, than drop the panel under the steering wheel and look there. Use a multimeter set to ohms with one probe on a solid part of the frame and the other probe to the solenoid wire - there should NOT be any reading. If there is, the wire is earthing out

Hello. My 1997 Chevy Tahoe refuses to start. The problems began with a bad fuel pump. I changed. It worked. The fuel pump died again. I changed it again and it has been working. I parked it for two weeks....

Now you have a good battery & a starter that turns over the motor

Have you cycled the key on & off with a fuel pressure gauge on the
fuel rail?

Do you have a fuel filter that isn't over 3 or 4 years old?

Have you checked for spark while cranking ? Use an old plug on the wires,
if you have ignition wires, don't ground the wire without resistance

If you removed the ducting & MAF Sensor it won't start

Tell us what you checked & exactly how that was done.
