Question about 1995 Toyota Paseo
The starter don't do anything .car makes a sound under the dash
-Make sure battery cable is good connect, no corrosion.
-If cable is clean and battery is full . Possibly time for new starter.
Or take the battery to auto zone for testing.

The starter won't get hot while the car is running. The starter only works while you are cranking it over. After running a while and the car is hot, feel if your battery is not over heating. If the vaultage regulator in the alternator is bad the battery may be overcharging causing it to over heat and not want to work when boiling. After it cools down it may work again.

if your starter has the clip style connector on the starter itself (not the solenoid) it is the cold weather package starter. they have different starters for automatics, manuals, california models, and cold weather package. i ran into the same problem.
