Yes,its not smoke its water vapour. Get the hose fixed and any other leak because thats causing theoverheat through low water and low pressure. The cap runs at around 10-14lbs which raises the boiling temp. No pressure means it boils sooner. Get it properly checkedout ad make sure there is 25% antifreeze in it even if you don't need it.

My guess is there is an airlock in the water system/heater. Any good DIY mechanic or shop should know what to do. If you have some idea or a good neighbour look for a return hose high up on the engine, release the hose so it can be easily pulled and refitted. Start up and when idling pull hose off and see if it coughs air out with the water, run until clear but keep the header tank topped up at all times.

the other day i drove it and it over heated when i opened the hood it was smoking from the radiator hose away from the engine and it was bubbling fluid.

Have you checked your rad fans? Rad flow? Rad condition? Possible water pump problem if those check out good.

2001 Dodge Durango 4.7 automatic . put in new radiator new thermostat hoses and cap , water pump is good as well , still runs hot water keeps flowing out of where the cap goes . No water in oil and no oil...

sadly it sounds like you have a blown head gasket...Does the coolant  smell like exhaust?  I hope you don't but, everything points in that direction.  Try bleeding the coolant system.

Have a 2001 Dodge Durango. Temp is hot, coolant is cold. Replaced thermostat still running hot 2001 durango stuck in 4 wheel drive. 2 wheel drive blinks

If you havent already, leave the radiator cap off of your radiator while you start the vehicle. Be sure the engine is cold, you could get hurt if not because the coolant will build up pressure. If the cap is off, no pressure will build. Wait a while for the vehicle to heat up, look in the opening, and see if the coolant is flowing. If so, could be a bad fan, or gummed up radiator......if NOT your turbine on your water pump could be bad, OR, by chance, the thermostat is not working.

THEROMSTAT/ 2002 DODGE DURANGO???

make sure engine is cool then drain coolant by opening the drain plug at bottom of radiator. remove cap from radiator so coolant will continue to drain and when coolant is down enough to pull off upper radiator hose at intake then close drain, then remove two bolts at coolant housing and remove thermostate. clean gasket material from intake and housing and replace with new gasket and thermostate tighten bolts install hose fill rad with coolant water mix 50/50 and run engine with heat on floor until gets hot and you see coolant flowing in rad, install cap
