Knock sensors senses the knock from the coolant that surrounds the combustion chambers. The knocking sound sends pulses through the water to the sensor. Same as the sound of a fire arm pulses the air to reach your ear.Look for them on what is called the water jacket. (block).

It's under the intake manifold. To access it you have to remove the manifold and injection rail.

because it is 22years old and has a lot of wear it may need plugs cap and button fuel sytem cleaned plug wires starter could be draging or low cylinder compresion and more

88 reliant starts and runs fine surges when driving on the highway


NOT MUCH INFO TO GO ON... THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM/ CRANK SENSOR.. TAKE DISTRIBUTOR CAP OFF.. REMOVE BUTTON, REMOVE THE COVER THAT COVERS THE INTERNALL GUTS OF DISTRIBUTOR... YOU WILL SEE A FLAT ROUND PEICE THERE THAT HAS A COUPLE WIRES GOING TO IT.. TRY REPLACING IT.. IT IS LIKE THE PICK UP IN A NORMAL SYSTEM

Belt broke that drives the water pump and alternator on my 88 plymouth reliant. another belt in the way, and cant figure out how to get the new belt on.


You can loosen the alternator that should releive the tension on the belt.
When you tighten it again make sure you can only turn the belt 90 degrees then you know you have the right tension.

Number of fan blades on radiator fan


Two is the correct number. I have an 88 and an 85 and they both have two blades.
