Have a compression test done and check for head gasket ,head stud leaking or cracked head

I distinctly referrd to a compression test. It is a teat where the plugs are removed and the compression pressures for each cylinder are recorded. A difference between cylinders will reveal gasket or cracks

SOURCE: Over heating

I agree with the man that said to change the radiator hoses. I've noticed that they no longer put a spring in the lower hose to keep it from collapsing. I've saved the spring from an old hose and use it. Also, for me the recovery tank was not a good idea. At the time that I installed one I coincidentally started popping the radiator top tank open. After many times of this, I have just taken the tank off. Apparently, it needs that air cushion. ! use a 13 psi cap.

Remove the cap from the coolant bottle and fill it all the way to the top. Then start the engine. Does the coolant shoot from the bottle?

Hello! It is extremely important that you only use Dex-Cool in your Cadillac's cooling system...It is Orange in color...If you have used another coolant or the block has not been flushed in some time, flushing is needed...

Drain the cooling system...Do not remove the thermostat...Fill radiator with drinkable water...Turn heat on full...Run engine until thermostat opens...Shut down, let cool then drain...Do this several times until water comes out clean...Replace thermostat...Replace O-rings on thermostat pipe...Coat thermostat bolts with Permatex...Re-fill with Dex-Cool...

Am experiencing inconsistent heat and/or defrost even after engine has warmed up. Also noticed engine temperature guage is noticably running hot. Coolant level or thermostat?

Most common problem here is the coolant level. If the overflow tank is full of coolant and you are experiencing heating/overheat problems, the thermostat is likely bad (especially if you've used a sealer due to a leak). A clogged thermostat will prevent coolant from circulating and impact your heater/defroster.

I had the water pump replaced. Is there a relay or a valve that controls the heater, or would a thermostat control it???

i didn't see you last posting about your water pump but theres is a tiny radiator called a heater core. it has the same hot water running through it as your big radiator and engine have.so when you turn your thermostat to hot and kick on the fan the fan blows through the heater core and wallaa you have heat you probably need a thermostat.if you have no heat and it is overheating hear and there that's probably what you need.make sure you see if you filled the radiator up all the way when you changed the water pump.

Why does my cadillac 1998 deville keep overheating?

Overheating can be numerous things: Fans not working, water pump, thermostat, overflow cap, and the list keeps going. When the engine is running and heats ups, feel the heat of the top hose, if the hose isn't hot, the thermostat is most likely stuck open and needs replaced. If it is hot we know you have circulation. The cap on the expansion tank may be defective, if it can't hold the pressure of the water, it will release at the overflow cap if the cap is bad. Also check the coolant level.

Reverse flush the cooling system and put in fresh antifreeze to -20. (20 below zero). If that doesn't help, replace the thermostat.
