I have to top off the coolant resovoir every 5 days or so. MB cannot find where the problem is. They have replaced the cap and checked the lines, but no sign of any leak. It does not happen if I don&a

I have gone to the Mercedes Dealers 4 times and they are stumped. They don't know where it is going.

Hi Sheila,so the dealer raised it in the air and inspected underneath for leakage.Usually the water pump,check at the thermostat,all hoses,is your carpet wet at the driver or passenger floor board,heater core could be leaking.

Hi Melody- it feels like you could be right. it feels like your car was well worn when you got it. common causes of overheating are coolant too low, which is what i suspect was the case when you first got it. a stuck closed thermostat not allowing coolant to circulate. i assume you have an electric cooling fan- check to see if your fan motor is fried. you could also have large air pockets inside your cooling system which can give false coolant level. when you pour coolant into your radiator rather than your overflow tank, you introduce air into the cooling system that has to be purged by allowing the bubbles to work their way out through your radiator by squeezing your coolant hose you can assist the escape of these air pockets (with engine running) evidence of a cracked head can be presence of coolant in your engine oil-pull your oil dipstick and look. you say no evidence of coolant leakage, however, look underneath your car and check to see if there is coolant splatter surrounding the underside. it maybe that your car is maintaining enough pressure to run but when engine temps reach a point to where the radiator fan should kick on, and/or the thermostat should open to allow coolant flow and these things dont happen-the result is what you describe with no power and overheating that will eventually overstress your head(s) warped heads can cause the symptoms you describe. you can perform a compression test to help pinpoint a blown cyl. an idea for fixing your car for cheap would be to take it to your local high school auto shop. the only way kids learn the trade is by subject cars. ill bet you can even arrange them to pick it up. the will fix your car for cost. you would only need to supply whatever parts are needed to make the repair. its a win-win situation because they get to learn by fixing your car and you get to use your car for doing mommy things without fear of labor fees. which are around $120/hr. Hi there. It sounds like you have done the most obvious checks and I can assure you by-passing the heater core will have no effect. There are three possible causes that you need to investigate further and you will need specialist equipment for it - you either have a hair-line crack in the head or cylinder wall or it might be that the head bolts are stretched and therefore weakened and so need replacement. To help you identify these aforementioned possible problems, you might need a specialist fluid that you put into the cooling system which changes colour when combustion chamber pressure enters the cooling system, you need to contact your local Ford Dealer for this - but then you still have the three possible problems to deal with - cracked cylinder wall/s, cracked head or stretched head bolts. I don't have the same coolant system that Ford has listed, my is different for my 2000 Ford Taurus SE 6cyl 3.0L. Where can we find the right part. I want to the junk yard 3 years ago and find one but the problem with that one is the top keep popping off. I have replaced the top three times and I am pissed because I love my car but I keep having to spend money on this system. H.E.L.P!!

Water keeps coming out of my resavor when it starts to heat up


from what you describe either a bad radiator cap, or a leak in the small hose going to the resovoir,or the line within the resovoir tank is to short or missing,this is whats happening,engine warms up to a point that the cooling system is building pressure,the radiator cap has a set presure release to it you might see the figure direcly on top of the radiator cap, 12-14 lbs rated. it usualy will read something like that, so as that warming engine builds pressure in the cooling system it will eventualy surpass the rating of the radiator cap ,and out it goes and flows in that small line to the overflow resovoir. now when the engine cools back down it now will create a vaccum and should draw that water back from the resovoir to the radiator,but if the hose or hardline that is usualy integral within the resovoir is bad cracked or missing, it would be the same as trying to drink a soda through a straw,but the straw is not inserted below the surface of liquid.or if the straw was cracked, no fluid can be vaccumed up through the straw, the resovoir works on that same principle, it must have a good unobstructed line from radiator to the resovoir,and the line inside the resovoir should go nearly to the bottom of the tank, so the water can be vaccume syphoned out just as drinking a soda with a straw.so check to be sure the line is all good no obstructions,no cracks, and that there is a line that continues within the resovoir tank almost to the bottom as well and it is in good shape as well. last check that radiator cap to make sure the rubber as well the upper gasket portion are still there and not cracked/dryrotted. if all that is in good working order then your radiator should be able to recover the water back.just like sippin a soda through a good straw

To re-fill the coolant make sure the vehicle engine is cold, open the radiator cap by pushing in on it and turning counter clockwise. Fill the radiator with the proper coolant, based on your vehicle use Dexcool or equivalent. Also open cap on the overflow resovoir and fill to the cold line. Replace both caps run your vehicle up to operating temerature let cool back down and check the levels.

Yes it is a problem, you can have a waterpump that leaks as the engine runs, when the vehicle warms up coolant expands and goes to the resovoir,as you turn the engine off and the engine cools off the fluid in the resovoir reutns to the engine but here the problem the radiator cap cant do its job when the water pump leaks

The radiator keeps throwing out all the water from the resovoir, why? everytime i put water or the cooler fluid and i use da car and turn it off all the water leaks out through the resovoir.

Engine cooling is a team effort, ie; radiator , coolant fan , thermostat , hoses etc . You need to change the coolant thermostat (cheap ) to elliminate any coolant problems (pressure), the rest is just water managenent ! ! It's not a leak and I feel a replacement coolant thermostat will answer your prayers ! The enging only has to overheat ONCE to have a serious bill at the end of all the guess work. Good Luck

radiator coolant level and overflow tank low fill overflow tank to max remove radiator cap top off coolant level, start car and let it warm up for 5 or 10 minutes, if fluid level drops top off radiator with coolant again check for heat output if OK replace cap DONE else have someone increase engine RPMs (around 3500rpm) top off coolant level (there was air in system) replace radiator cap

Why my low coolant light comes on at time. but its not low on coolant. i just put a new water pump on.


CHECK COOLANT OVER FLOW RESERVOIR MAKE SURE IT HAS COOLANT IF YES.YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW RESERVOIR. CHECK TO MAKE SURE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR STILL INTACT.LIGHTLY TAP WITH THE HEAD OF A SCREW DRIVER BELOW COOLANT LOW LEVEL SENSOR BOTTOM OF COOLANT RESERVOIR.IF LOW COOLANT LIGHT GOES OUT COOLANT SENSOR PROBABLY STUCK IF LIGHT STAYS ON COOLANT LOW LEVEL SENSOR BAD.

Replaced thermostat and flushed out heater core 3 times 3 times it was cloggged, flushed system twice got good radiator flow and ther very hot just heat like luke warm one line in to core hot one oming out...


If the heater core is not damaged or leaking ie: if you don't see coolant on the INSIDE of your windshield or coolant on the floor inside the car then chances are you may just need to BLEED the radiator.

remove radiator cap

Fill coolant resovoir to the cold line if the engine is cold from sitting overnight.

Start engine with cap off

Wait till engine gets hot

While waiting you will see a big gurgle of air bubbles come out and the coolant level will drop

Fill the radiator with more coolant to compensate.

When the fans come on and it stops gurgling air install the radiator cap

You are done

Watch the coolant level for the next few days and top off in the resovoir as needed to keep it filled.

Your heat should be very hot now providing you installed the correct oem thermostat correctly.

How do I get the air out of the engine coolant, I just replaced the thermostat and I need to bleed the air out


If you don;t have a bleed nipple, then top the radiator up and run to operating temperature without the cap on, once the thermostat opens it will reduce the level, it won't take much to top it up, replace the cap and then let it sit ovenight so it cools, then in the morning before starting, simple fill to the top and also the resovoir. This should solve your problem. Good luck

Check the plug conector from the coolant sensor at the ECU, maybe cleaning with dielectric solvent you will can have a solution.
