Because you have changed the head gasket I am thinking that there is a valve timing problem. If at any stage you turned the crank when the head was removed and refitted the head and cam shaft
and turned the crank to align the marks then there is a distinct possibility that there is valve damage. Do a compression test. Turning an engine by hand is difficult because each piston will have compression.

Testimonial: "Hi would valve timing cause no spark"

  • Bill Boyd Nov 19, 2014

no --valve timing is the relationship of valve position and piston position. If the cam shaft position sensor is not connected/faulty then there will be no spark.Ignition is the relationship of the ignition to the crankshaft position. If the crankshaft position sensor is not connected /faulty there will be no spark. To make an engine run you have to have 3 things ---spark at the right time, compression and fuel. valve timing is critical because if it is not right you will have bent valves or you will not get compression (virtually the same thing) If you do not have spark or it is occurring at the wrong time then the engine will not run

SOURCE: obd diagnostic

Look under the hood in the engine compartment. The emissions sticker will tell you if it is obd compliant...If it is manufactured in the u.s. since 1996 , federal laws require it to be obd compliant..I would give the manufacturer of the scanner a call to check compatability...Good Luck!!!

SOURCE: car wont start

these cars go through coil packs regularly as the packs overheat due to their position on the end of the engine. I have 3 lanos and have replaced all coil packs at around 90,000 k's.
Hope this helps.

What i do when my car is mixing oil and water

sound like the cyl. head gasket has gone . but its worth checking the inlet manifold gasket as there is a coolant port on end of the gasket and coolant can be drawn in to the that way if its the head gasket.there is a head gasket kit you can buy that cures this completley but it means removing the sump and changing the oil rail to prevent the clamping load changing with eng. temp
.

How to fix a mg zr head gasket

the best solution is to fit a multi layer type gasket and change the oil rail also a kit is availiable through xparts it is a long lasting repair the old gasket is not good the main reason these gaskets fail is because the engine holds only a small amount of coolant to decrease warm up times to reduce emissions but when the thermostat opens the engine gets a large gush of icy cold water from the radiator the engine components ie cyl, head and cyl block move in relation to each other

Mz zr possbile head gasket falt what to look for ?

with car running check to see if the radiator hoses get rock hard and stay that way.. when a cylinder head gasket goes the commpression from the cylinder will push into the cooling system causing the hoses to become hard at all times even after t-stat opens... if u have a funnel that can lock onto radiator where the cap would normally be then you can actually watch the coolant bubble and smell exhaust coming from the coolant...

I bought a mgf vvc off a friend and she sed the head gasket had gone so i replaced gasket and had head skimed and put it all back togeather again but car try's to start but thats it it has spark b

The fuel pump incorporates a inertia switch,The switch is next to the ECM,you may have triggered, reset it by pressing the red top.If that doesnt do it the pressure regulator uses a spring diaghram modified by a vacuum signal, remove the vacuum signal (just to start)

Zs mg rover fan heater risistor not working just not getting no electric feed to it and the fuse is ok.

A very common fault this one, that is easily fixed. On older cars the heater fan speeds one and two often fail, due to the resistors burning out. This applies to most of the MG Rover cars of the 90's and 2000's so Rover 200, 25, 45, 400, MG ZR, ZS, MGF and MGTF.
Buy three bigger resistors of value 0.68 ohm and wattage 10 watts, from eBay or an electronics store.
Most of the video here is an MG ZR, apart from the MG TF at the start but it is similar for all models. The MG TF took marginally longer due to the slightly more hidden location of the resistor pack. You need to remove a short vent pipe as well as the glovebox cover on that car.

Mg zr overheating, not thermostst, seems to have airlock but not that??mystery which many others seem to have??

First thing you have to make sure that the cooling fan are working, not the a/c fan. Make sure all the hoses are the same temp. If not the thermostat most likely it my be the water pump.
