I expect that the caliper is sticking. The rails get corroded or rusty and keep the caliper from returning to the rest position. sometimes the caliper pins are corroded and caust the same situation. Usually this seems to occur on one side and the result is that the pads on that side wear more quickly due to the caliper not retracting, thus leaving the pads touching the rotor and wearing quicker. Suggest caliper removal and scrape and wirebrush the rails, replace the caliper pins. I use a high temperature synthetic brake grease on the rails and the caliper pins for lubrication and protectionl.

Bad sensor in one wheel, they are part of the wheel bearing. Could also be a bad abs computer module, either way, not cheap.

SOURCE: ABS and Traction Control Light On

Because the brakes were changed, either one of the sensors were broken when removing brakes or it has set a code. Go to your local autoparts store and have them reset the code. See if it comes back on. If it does you will need to look at the ABS sensors on each wheel and replace if damaged

Brakes have to come apart once a year, at least,
to inspect,remove rust & lube-do that,then get your
abs system codes & diagnose them

May be time to replace the rubber flex hoses & caliper
may be rusted inside, if the fluid is not changed every 2
years, since it was new, could also ruin the expensive
abs unit with moisture, for the same reason

Hello, There are scanners made for the ABS system. There is valving inside the ABS unit which routes the brake fluid to the Calipers. It may be not so much that the right wheel is grabbing, but the left wheel is not braking.

There are also different methods to bleed the brakes. Some people like to pump them, some have pressure bleeders, some gravity bleed. I use a Vacuum bleed which seems to work good for me.
With a Vacuum bleed I can tell if one wheel is not drawing fluid or seems clogged. I just use the handheld Vacuum pump with the bleed cup attachment.

You should be able to jack the front up and have a helper pump the brake and spin the front wheels by hand. The action on the left and right side should be similar.

Before you go to use an ABS scanner, disconnect the ABS plug-ins and check for corrosion on the pins. Use a little WD40 or Electrical cleaner on the connections and then reconnect them and try it.
Remember to follow the pattern of bleeding the longest brakeline first. Usually the drivers front is the shortest line. All scanners are not equal, only the more expensive units have the ABS test function.

Good Luck with this, would like to know what finally cured it.

You had to leave something out, or you got a pad in backwards. The right front right,? it is not grabbing, just grinding, should be easy enough to spot, take the wheel off again and find the problem, Changing the pads should have nothing to do with the abs,. I don't know why the light would be coming on unless you have too much movement for the abs to work, or not enough. Check it out, hope this helps.

it could be the brake pads have absorbed moisture and on the first apply they grab. I would replace the pads with a better quality and see what happens. The noise your hear under the hood is the ABS pump working because the wheels are locking up .

1996 GMC Jimmy Stopping Problems

sounds like your abs isnt working right. The pulling to the right could be the alignment out, brake pads more worn out on one side then the other or a rotor grabbing better than the other. If I was you I would get the alignment checked along with replacing brake pads and rotors and maybe disconnecting the abs, thats what I did to mine and have no problems anymore.

Brakes pulsate real hard

That is just the ABS system at work. It is supposed to prevent your wheels from locking which often makes the brake pulsate, especially in wet weather or or snow or ice. The only way to really stop this is to disable to ABS by unplugging it and removing the fuse. This will make the ABS light appear in your dash, but your brakes will stop pulsating.

Vehicle shakes

I doubt it. You'd have an ABS light on. All wheel are warm to scalding hot after even light driving. ABS systems do not apply brakes. They unapply them. They simply cut the fluid to one of the wheels / axle sets of brakes. (Newer stability control systems use the brakes) In your case. The ABS can deactivate either front wheel independantly, or the both the rear brakes together. You can take the wheel off & flip the pad & piston up to check it if you want, but I wouldn't think it was the brake dragging at the top of my list, no.
