2 things; If you jack up one front wheel, stick it in gear, does it try and turn the engine? If it does then the trans is turning. Did you check the trans operated in all gears before you fitted it?

Next, is it possible the clutch friction plate is in backwards. If so then the raised side that holds the damper springs is hard up against the fly wheel and causing the drag that prevents the clutch from releasing.
I cant help with info as to whether the trans is a fit but while you are underneath the hood, look and see if the clutch arm appears to move the right amount when the pedal is pressed. The only other thing I can think of is that the trans is seized somehow. You can test this while its jacked up by starting up on idle with it in gear, the raised wheel will turn.. Try this in all gears but BE CAREFUL with it on jacks, better to have jackstands under both sides.

You might have to shift the transmission by hand when you jack it up... Your shift cable may be broken. If you purchased a Transmission from a spyder then you should be good no matter the year. Like the last answer said jack the entire front of the car up and put it in gear start the car have a friend stand and watch the tires to see if they move. Then you from inside press the clutch the tires should slow down to stop if so the clutch is good and your shift cables are shot. Not enough info sweetie why did the transmission go bad in the first place and did you put a new clutch in the car with the used trans?

In order to shift it manually you have to shift the levers one the transmission itself to see if your shift cable is bad. Normally a bad cable is torn or limp when you grab it at the transmission. You still have not given enough information on why the old one was removed. Was the old one shifting properly?

SOURCE: Removal of slave clutch master cylinder

The hydraulic cylinder is in the bell housing. When you separate the motor and tranny, you will see it as a unit with the throw-out bearing. Take the hydraulic line off before you start. You will have to bleed it when you are done.

SOURCE: HI, I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 1990 NISSAN 300ZX NON

being 1991, and a sport car, good idea to go ahead and replace slave cylinder since you have them and very easy to replace. If you able to push your car while is in any gear more likely the clutch pad pressure plate are worned and slipping. If you can push the car while is in gear even the engine is not running than it will be your clutch pad and your presure plate is shot that would mean you tranny has to come out. once you in the tranny you might as well replace with new clucth pad, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Also check your fly wheel make sure is not ate up. if it is then you will have to have the flyweel resurface by a machine shop. using the lift is the best way to work on the Z. most garage will charge 400-500 to do the work.

Have you considered the syncronizers? if they are the problem though you will need a mechanic to repair it as they are not DIY unless you have a lot of experience

SOURCE: 95 mitsubishi manual. Shifting problems. Changed slave cylinder and bled line and it worked perfectly . Today it won't shift unless engine is off. Should I bleed line again? What else might be wro

Check the slave cylinder is coming out when you push the clutch down ,without my head under the bonnet its difficult to say but either you have lost the fluid or the thrust bearing has now pushed through the pressure plate with the correct pressure .

I am trying to find the best way to drop or lift

out of experience it is alot easier to get the motor out from the bottom. this way you can drop the engine and the tranny at the same time and pull the tranny off while the engine is out of the car rather than in the car

Engine replacement

I thought all '87 FWD corolla's were 1.6l 4ac engines like mine. SOHC 2bbl Carb. Well in any case, I just did this with mine. You do have to drop the ball joint on the driverside to get the short shaft out, and then the tranny. the Passenger side cv shaft can stay put. You can then pull the engine out the top. Not enough clearance to pull just the engine or to pull both cause of the driverside manual tranny mount sticking out of the fender over the tranny. The easiest way is to drop both out of the bottom together, but the car needs to be high enough off the ground. Can't pull just the engine with a manual because of the shaft that goes in the clutch. if it were an auto sure, just unbolt the torque converter, sepereate the tranny, and pull the motor straight up. Watch out for the water pump pulley.

Motor swap

If your planing on swaping the 2.0 non-turbo(420a) to the 2.0 turbo(4g63t) your problem will be that the motor and transmission are on opposite side of one another. My GST has the trans on the passenger side and the motor on the driver. The 420a is just the opposite. If your serious about it you should get the motor rebuilt with higher performance crank, pistons, rods, exc.  And they make turbo kits for the 420a.  But you'll need better fuel delivery and some mild tuning.

Where is the starter eclipse turbo 1998

On the underside connected to the engine on your model eclipse I believe left side from looking at hood side. If its not turning over its your starter. Starters are easy fixes 100-150 new with returned core and about 50-75 rebuilt. Will have to jack your car up to get to it, just buy new one and you will see it =]
