I have a 98 Kia Sephia. When I turned on the heater it blows cold air and smoke came from underneath the hood while the heater was on. Turned the heater off and car. After a while off it stopped smoking....

Check to see if you have lost antifreeze. If the coolant reservoir tank is low or empty, check the radiator, but wait till the car has cooled down before opening the radiator cap. Low coolant level is sometimes the cause of poor heater performance, but your car may have a leaking heater core or hose. Feel the hoses for any wetness-they are behind the engine and enter the firewall behind the engine. The coolant may have got on the hot exhaust pipes and caused the smoke. But you will have to check for that or for what caused the smoking, when the heater was turned on. First check the coolant level and add a pre-mixed 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water if needed.

Heater puts out cold air

If your heater is blowing cold air, you may need to change the heater coil. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heater core one line hot one line cold

Souns to me like the heater core is either "air locked" or plugged. If you haven't done any work on the cooling system lately then toe core is plugged and will have to be replaced. If you were working on the system, then top up the overflow and leave the cap loose for a couple days. This will allow the air to escape but keep it topped up. Remember to keep the heater running when you do this. Hope this helps.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 - The heater blows cold air when it sits at idle but blows warm air when it is being driven down the road. A/C does the opposite, doesn't blow cold air when diling, but I figured this...

the heater blowing cold at an Idle and warm while driving it,is usually low coolant in the radiator, remove the radiator cap when engine is cold, fill to the top,and fill overflow tank to full,if that doesn't take care of it,check the heater hoses at an idle and see if they are both the same temp,it might be a water pump not doing its job.

HEATING PROBLEMS

Need more information. The most important thing would be to watch the heater water valve move when someone turns the control from hot to cold, back and forth?
Heater valve controls tend to be operated by vacuum, and switched by a heater computer. Lots of possibilities. But first tell us what you see move when operated? Valve is usually in engine compartment, in the heater hose. Follow the hot one.
