Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Hello , I have a 2002 Buick Century (custom) and I'm experiencing steering wheel problems. My car started up as usual (but I didn't give it time to warm up) as I started to drive , I had to turn left. As I started to turn left , my wheel became really hard to turn ... so I turned it as much as I could (trying not to go over the curb / run into it.) After I completed the turn , the steering wheel was locked and the entire car wouldn't move. I tried pushing down on the brake and accelerator , but those were also hard . I put the car in drive and pushed down on the accelerator to see if it would move / rev up and it didn't even rev up , nor did it begin to drive. After that I turned the car off (with the steering wheel still being all locked up how it was) in hopes of just putting the key back and everything would be functional again , but that lead to deeper problems. After I did that , it wouldn't start up at all!! It sounded as if it wanted to turn over , but nothing happened. What's wrong with my car? Please help.

Have the battery tested as sounds like a complete electrical failure at best , if battery ok then i'd check the timing belt hasn't broken , if this is ok then the drive belts for the steering , alternator etc , this really needs to been seen to give a specific diagnosis , get a mechanic for an hour and get a diagnosis and quote , hope this is of help

SOURCE: Car won't move

It would appear that your CV joints are worn out completely, and you are going to have to replace them, or the whole half-shaft. When you hear those funny noises, that is your car talking to you... the only way it can, and you have to fix those noises ASAP.

SOURCE: Today, after fueling up my car - I went to start

if you turned the steering wheel after shutting off the engine and the steering wheel caught the lock and tried to turn back it would hold pressure against the ignition lock cylinder. if it happens again try pulling the steering wheel hard one way or the other and turn the key at the same time.

Start by having someone press the horn while you feel the relay with your finger. If the relay clicks when the horn is pressed then the switch is working properly and your problem is between the relay and horn assembly.

My first thought was a dirty battery cable connection...corrosion builds up and allows contact to work all of your accessories, but not good enough contact to work the starter? 2002 buick century transmission shifter will not move on the column.

Check the cable that is located above the steering wheel, it affects the shifting mechanism. My Buick was recently having this same problem. Tear open the cover to your steering wheel and locate the black cable that runs over the top and around the back side of the steering wheel. This may be the problem if it isn't sitting properly.

You might want to check the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) It could be defective and telling the PCM (car's computer) that the engine coolant is cold all the time.
