It sounds more like the pump, if the converter fails it would have a crazy lock up shifting problem. Sometimes the bearing for the torque converter will loosen and spin in the housing this to could be the issue.

SOURCE: Won't shift from 2nd gear to drive unless i run

This trans has a safety built in to default to second gear if the computer sees any kind of problem. Have it scanned. It can be an input or out put speed sensor, or even a temp sensor on the engine. If there are codes that say ratio error, take it back to who rebuilt it and hope they will take care of you. I use to give a major discount if they were not too far out of warranty.

This sounds like the problem is still in the torque converter. It sounds like the torque converter is locking up too early. And causing the jerking. It also could be the PCM. But if the torque converter has been a problem then I would look there first. Take the truck back to the company that rebuilt the torque converter and have them repair the problem.

2001 mercury Cougar is in park; tried several times to move it out of gear and no luck. Tranny fluid full. A few months ago had tranny fluid pan gasket replaced. Has been driving fine up til today.

If it's stuck in park , problem with gear interlock system ! This is a safety system that will not allow gear shifter to be move with out foot pressing on the brake pedal . Do the brake light's work ? Could be a bad switch or wiring problem or shift interlock solenoid or maybe even a control module !

02 grand Cherokee 4.7 545ref tranny 247transfer case if transfer case is bad would it make it seem like the tranny was bad I have no gears tranny rebuilt 8 months ago, it will try to go if u rev throttle...

You will have to have the transmission issues diagnosed

I would not think your question is directly the main issue, as
far a the transfer case goes, but it still can have mechanical
& electrical problems

If you have been using it like that & most people do, then
having been a trans shop owner, you could very well have
ruined yet another unit,way I don't know

I would guess the trans was possibly not updated or built
properly & I have seen them fail in 8 months

Sometimes you find a mistake or problem & in most cases
they are as clean inside as the day you rebuilt it

Today most issues are electronic & good luck there finding
a tech who knows the complete powertrain

You can not just start at the trans or transfer case

You have to diagnose every module in the vehicle
& all systems & fix as you go,even if is just trans related

The cold can effect the valve body until warmed up

Could be it was never taken apart or cleaned

Could be as you said, the shop didn't know how
to take the pump apart or even check for updates
to valves in there that score the pump

I would be interested to know why you kept pulling the tranny. Its possible you lost the prgram in the PCM. You may need a reflash. Where there codes. Or you may have a bad torque converter or trans oil pump.

Have you done a back pressure test on it? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, unbolt exhaust at heads or before the catalitic converter/converters. Try starting then driving it then. If that solves your problem, your catalitic converter/converters are clogged.
