You have a wiring issue there...check battery connections, connections at altenator, junction box and fuse pass through at the firewall. Make sure you follow your ground wires too should be one from the battery to block and frame to block

this is the coming problem with '98 chevy trucks. abs system failure. you might need to replace complete abs unit and properly bleed your brakes. before you replace abs control unit you should pull the abs codes.

you obviously have a short to ground on one of the wires to the back (if it was the front the brake shouldn't blow the fuse). the most common problem is usually in a trailer light harness. if you look under the drivers side rear of the truck, down under the tail light there will be a plugin junction. pull this plug-in apart and see if the fuse still blows. if it does then the problem is forward of that connector, if it doesn't then the problem is behind that plugin. be sure to check for "green death" (electrical corrosion) at all joints especially any trailer hook ups.

I had the same problem with my 98 Cadillac Deville. I changed the power steering pump and the hose that runs to the rack. The problem was solved, loud noises and whining stopped.

ok, try cleaning the battery posts, and if its older then three years change the battery. Once everything is ok check the charging system of the vehicle. The reason your power steering/brakes went out is the engine was off, power sterring works of a pulley on the engine and the power booster for the brakes works off the engine vacuum.

1998 chevy silverado brake problem

Sound's like the ABS common problem. Chevy has a recall that say's to remove and clean the front speed sensors mateing surface of rust. I would try that before I started spending money. If you can do you own front brakes you can handle this. Good luck
