Question about Cars & Trucks

I recently noticed that after turning my engine on, the rev oscillates and the engine sounds exactly the way it would if the thermostat for the AC was coming on and off, except the AC wasn't turned on

I recently noticed that after turning my engine on, the rev oscillates and the engine sounds exactly the way it would if the thermostat for the AC was coming on and off, except the AC wasn't turned on and this oscillation is more intermittent than that of the AC thermostat. I also noticed loss of some power as I need to sometimes pump the throttle about 3-4 times during acceleration for it to pick up. This morning, I noticed a slight grinding sound immediately after the engine came on. Just wondering if all these symptoms are related. Please provide some insight as to what might be responsible. Thank you.

Year, make and model would be nice. But clean the throttle body on the inside, along with the idle air control motor. Mass air flow sensor if you have one.

SOURCE: Struggling to Accelerate immediately after starting engine

Definitely not the fuel pump. A fuel pump will either work, or it wont. It could be a fuel filter, though unlikely, again if it was clogged there would be nothing. Could be spark plugs/wires, a faulty coil pack, Could also be a handful of sensors (o2, MAF, are a few that come to mind). Does it have a manual transmission? If so can the car be started without engaging the clutch (in neutral)? If so check the 2 clutch sensors attached to the clutch pedal.

Probably a sensor. Go to Advanced Auto parts and have them pull the code. Then google it. Or check out Forums.vwvortex.com

SOURCE: 2002 1.6L GOLF, EPC LIGHT

It sounds as if your vehicle may have severe water damage to the engine. The engine sensors on the golf are suseptable to water damage and can result in epc light that you are seeing on your dash, or so i was told by VW. I replaced all the sensors, alternator and the computer on my original engine, but this action didnt fix the problem. So i bit the bullet and replaced the engine, and haven't had a problem since. If you do the labor yourself it can be done as cheap as $4000. I hope this helps mate.

good luck

2003 ford escape V6 idles 1000rpm, then drops over 5 seconds and then cycles back to 1000rpm...i recently had alternator replaced. I have regular oil changes. New gas filter. It sounds like something...

A few things that could cause the problem are:1 Airflow meter that is if it is a fuel injected motor. 2 On carburettor models the idle solenoid will do that if it is faulty: 3 Airconditioning compressor or pump will click in and out with a sound causing the revs of the engine to alternate as it uses more or less energy accordingly. Also if the bearings in the compressor are worn in it's early stages of wear could make a similar sound to that of a fan: 4 The electric fan coming on too often because the engine is running very hot, could also cause the clicking sound as the thermostat clicks on and off. I suggest you check the water level in the bottle and in the radiator just to make sure that it's not getting too hot and if the levels are low then you have a problem that must be attended to immediately.

My 93 Buick lesabre recently started having a loud clicking sound while driving and in park. My friend and I noticed that when in park and we turn on the AC, It stops, But if continue to drive with AC on,...

how much does the clicking happen ? like every second or ten time a second or like every minute or so ? when the engine is not running just take your hand on the AC pump pulley and see if there is any kind of play in it. we'll start there.

How am i to know when the thermostat opens

The best way to know if the thermostat opens is by removing your radiator cap. Rev the engine and if you see the coolant moving on the radiator then that means the thermostat is open. if not then it is in close mode. If you want to open the thermostat simultaneuously, wait till your engine reach the operating temp. and turn the accleration wire in our engine. If you noticed the coolant is moving from left to right then your cooling systems is working and your thermostat is open,

Car is overheating and we already removed the thermostat and checked for any leaks.

The only way to really check for leaks is to borrow a pressure tester from a place like Autozone. You basically replace the filler cap with a pump that allows you to over pressurize. With the engine off, you wait to see if it holds pressure. then with engine on, you rev to see if a bad head gasket causes high pressure oscillations.

most likely a thermostat because the pressure on the a\c will be high if engine is over heating or the fans are not kicking on (check fan relay)
