SOURCE: 92 Accord Automatic shifting

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

SOURCE: Car wont shift into gear. Gear shift moves but gears don't

It sounds like the lever from the gear shifter has come loose. I would first look at the shifter from under the car. You can also remove the boot (or console) from inside the car and check the linlage. Most linkage is held on by a small clip or cotter pin and somethime they don't stay in place anad the linkage slides off the arm..

JUST PURCHASE 2000 MUSTANG 2 DAYS AGO. NOW WILL NOT SHIFT OUT PARK. I ASK A PERSON THEIR ..HE SAID TURN THE KEY HALF WAY & THE SHIFTER WENT INTO NERUTAL & CAR STARTED..WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

Brake switch, shift interlock solenoid or bad transmission range selector. Shift interlock won't let you shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake. So brake pedal starts the cycle. Next, the vehicle has to be in either park or neutral. So power flows from the brake switch through the transmission range selector which then sends power to the shift interlock solenoid which moves a pin out of the way, allowing you to shift out of park.

You have a shift interlock problem . What kind of vehicle ? a mercury what ?
Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator mounted on the selector lever. If the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is disabled when the brake pedal is depressed.
If the selector lever will not move out of PARK with the key in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed, it will need to be unlocked manually.

The linkage are hooked up but the car still want go into park,a 2000 Taurus

Do you have floor console shifter ?
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock system consists of the following:
  • ignition switch (11572)
  • brake pedal stoplight switch (13480)
  • brake shift interlock module
  • brake shift interlock solenoid assembly (attached to key interlock assembly)
  • necessary wiring
On floor-shift vehicles, the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719):
  • locks the floor shift transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  • requires the floor shift transaxle range selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

Where is the automatic fill plug located and how much fluid

I assume you want to add transmission fluid. On most vehicles with automatic transmissions, you remove the transmission fluid dipstick and insert a funnel into the dipstick tube. Slowly pour the fluid into the funnel. Caution: do not overfill.

Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for checking the fluid level. Generally, it must be done with the engine running. If the fluid level has been very low, it is a good idea to shift the lever into each position (with the foot firmly on the brake and the engine idling), and let the fluid circulate for a few seconds before going to the next position. Shift into the gear recommended for measuring the fluid level, then check how much you need to add. On some older cars, you had to measure it in "Drive" - rather dangerous if your parking brake was not in good working order. Most newer cars now calibrate the fluid level for "Park."

Ford Expedition 2001 that wont shift out of Park

Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator (3Z719) mounted at the base of the steering column tube (3514). If the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is continually on unless the brake pedal is depressed.

Thier is also the shift lock actuator ! plus wiring . You have a short to ground on that circuit . Do you know how to Find a short ? videos on youtube .
