You will have to comment with more information to get an answer for this. What work has been done to the engine and why would it be suggested that thicker head gaskets be used.

Hi there new sleeve was done and the now I see that there's a crack on the block between the two and three cylinder but took it back to the engineering who work on it now he says he made a mistake on it so now he wants to weld it I don't know what to do if this is a good idea

  • Bill Boyd Nov 19, 2014

welding on a block especially by a "mechanic" who did not see the crack in the first place is not recommended. I am thinking that he suggested a thicker head gasket because the sleeve was not properly fitted in the first place "mechanic". I suggest that you get a block from the wreckers and take it to an accredited engine reconditioning specialist shop and have the job done properly. To use in a sleeve in an engine unless the block is a dry /wet sleeve or uses sleeves as part of the engine construction is doing a half rearended job. If needed sleeves it would need all the cylinders sleeved. Find yourself another "mechanic"

My 99 surburban temp surges 210 t0 260 then goes back to 190 and blows white smoke some times is it the intake gasket

white smoke means coolant is getting into the combustion chamber of the engine which would mean your head gasket is bad. I would change your thermostat too. it doesnt sound like it is working properly. your thermostat is probably getting stuck closed and that is what is leading your temperature to get high. The high heat, or even if your truck over heats a few times, it ruins the integrity of your head gasket.

1994 oldmobile transmission pan replacement

Just get a used trans pan

You can put that one yourself, pretty easy job

I would suggest you go to a trans repair shop
& tell them what car you have.

If they don't have a used one, they will get it the next
morning early, with their daily parts ,from the wholesaler

They also have the good pan gaskets, you do not want the
rubber & cork from the auto parts store
You want the brown cardboard looking gasket, with the waxy
coating.

The used pan & gasket goes for about $10.00 total

I am trying to replace my value cover gasket. I first need to remove how?

that depends on the engine size, always put that in your question , anyway,, a general rule of thumb is,,, remove the bolts that hold the valve cover down to the head,, at times you may need to completely scrape away all of the old gasket, when installing the new one, be sure to put a little gasket seal on the corners of the gasket so it doesn't come off when you flip it over to put it back in place,, here, lemme give you a link, so you can see what I mean http://www.youtube.com/user/scottykilmer#p/search/0/LeH4h0aEmsI

Yes, the head gasket may have broken or the heads aren't mating properly with the block. At any rate, the leak is probably from the cooling system to the cylinders of the engine.

replace the power steering pump, the hoses are an odd size and you have to buy a wrench for it, the transmission you can change the gasket and filter and replace the fluids,, probably the engine is dripping from the rear main bearing seal, this is best left to someone who knows what they are doing.

I had new intake manifold gadket installed noe

Since problem developed after head gasket replaced. I would look at head gasket. Try re-torque head bolts. Was correct gasket size installed? (due to wear and tear, sometimes OEM gasket is no longer correct).

Head Gasket Issues on 91' Sundance

Need to know engine size. If it is a 2.2 or 2.5 you should not have any trouble finding good used parts if needed. You may find a complete engine in good condition for 2-3 hundred. Call your local wrecker and see what may be available. It might surprise you. Good luck.Moe

We have a 1998 Cadillac Deville, we have to keep putting water in it everyday, its no leaking water, its like the water is just evaporating, there is no water in the oil, so what can the problem be?

Worst case it could the head gasket.Do you see any white smoke or moisture coming out of the tailpipe?
If the head gasket is blown the car will run a lot hotter than the normal (190 to 210 degree)....
You may need a mechanice to confirm this before panicking .
