While driving the car will shut down along with all gauges. after it sets a while it will then start

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE IN THAT CONDITION, IT IS A HAZARD TO YOU AND OTHER ROAD USERS.
If everything shuts down you have amajor issue. The car should be inspected by a GOOD auto electrician...not a mechanic. Describe the symptoms to him.

I react badly when I read about this particular problem, we had a car that once did the same thing while we were on the road, the wife and girls were in the back. Could have lost control and killed us all. Please do not drive it if it does it again. I had that car scrapped straight after

My 1999 Chevy Lumina shuts down while driving and will not start immediately. It may start after a while but will shut down again. When parked, it starts and idles for a while and may or may not shut, but...

it sounds like your ignition module is failing, when the car dies, take off one spark plug wire from the coil and crank the key, see if there is spark. one other issue may be the crank position sensor which can also stop the module from firing a spark

2000 ford excursion v10 driving down the road

Honestly you should send it into the dealer. I don't think guessing will help you. Typically it is a dirty connection into the steering column (behind the ignition key) But diagnostics need to be run and a look at the VSS system (through a good scan tool) is needed to confirm.

Shuts off will driving, especially if I hit a bumpy road.

check the wires to the fuel pump if they have rubbed against something and the insulation wore through hitting bumps or rain could cause it to short and kick the relay and resets again and will start
