Question about Dodge Ram 1500
The plug closest to the tank. The grey wire should have voltage for 2 seconds when you turn the key on or constant voltage as you crank the engine. The black wire should have ground all the time. You'll need a volt/ohm meter to check for power and ground.

Code 12 doesn't correlate, but Code 1282 may provide some insight. Code 1282 is "The fuel pump relay circuit seems to be having a problem", which would explain the disconnect/reconnect trick that sporadically works. Have the relay circuit looked at.

Open up the tail gate, you will see two torque screws on the inside beside the tail lights. take these out, this will free up the housing and you can change it from there.
