Every VW dealership has a junk yard affiliated with it. In Seattle we have Carter which has a major junk yard for spare parts located closer to Arlington. You can try calling there or your local dealership. Otherwise try a transmission shop and compare with online parts dealers.

SOURCE: How do you override the transmission shift lock on

On most cars of that year and newer you have to have the engine running and be pressing down on the brake pedal to shift out of park. If that does not work try having some one rock the car forward and back while you try to shift out of park. If the rocking trick works in the future while still in gear and holding the brakes set your parking break then shift to park. This will keep the weight of the car of the parking lock in the transmision and prevent the problem from reoccurring. Good Luck!!

Stiff shifting on 2001 impala?

if you mean harsh shift after the car warms up.it it is your shift solenoid ,in your transmission,it it is bad design by GM,which has a aluminum piston inside the steel cylinder(talking about inside solenoid not engine) ,they have after market design which solve the problem,it is cheap part about 40$ or so but about 4 hours labor( they have to drop the driver side front end to access 4 little screw and 5 minute job after that),and no they will not drop your transmission to do that

How difficult is it to change the shifter cable

1

Take the rubber boot off the gear shift inside the vehicle and lift it up, exposing the area where the gear shift and the transmission connect.
2

Look for the shift cable and the shifting arm. A single bolt and nut connect the shift cable and shift arm.

3

Twist the nut connecting the gear shift and the transmission. Use a socket wrench and remove the gear shift. Use an open-end wrench to loosen the nut holding the shift cable and the shift arm together.
4

Slide off the sleeve on the shift cable and loosen the shift cable at the other end with an open-end wrench. Both ends of the shifting cable attach to the shifting arm in different locations.
5

Hitch the new shift cable to the 2 anchor points on the shift arm using the same bolts and nuts. Reconnect the gear shift to the transmission and push the rubber boot back into place around the gear shift inside the car.
6

Test the functionality of the shifting cable by moving the gear shift in and out of gear.

I think the cable is molded into the little plastic piece. see if you can see the end of the cable. see if it looks like it broke, or was cut. if not, the molding came undone, and the cable pulled from the anchor in the plastic thing.

Transmission wont go into overdrive on my 01 beetle, if you shift it manual it shifts hard into 3rd gear, every light on the dash is on. are all these problems related?

Try tuning the transmission by changing the fluid, filter and pan gasket. You might have to do it twice but in a few cases with newer vw beetles I have noticed a pattern of bad transmissions

2001 VW Beetle with manual transmission will not shift into reverse; linkage out of adjustment? Other?

This may or may not be helpful. You have to physically push the stick down into the floor in order to access reverse. Then you can move it left and up. Straight down into the rubber boot first. It will pop up when you shift into a forward gear. Good luck

My transmission will not go into park. how do i fix that

  1. Install the shift cable end of the shift cable to the transmission shift lever stud ball.
  2. Install the retainer to the shift cable and transmission bracket.
  3. Feed the shift cable through the floor panel.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Adjustment Procedure
    1. Ensure that the shift cable is not restricted.
    2. Place the shift lever into the NEUTRAL position.
    3. Position the shift cable to assume a natural routing. The shift cable must be free to move 20.0 mm (0.80 inch) axially during the adjustment under adjustment spring loads.
    4. Pull the cable end completely forward and release it. (When the cable is pulled completely forward and released, the adjustment spring will position the cable to its most rearward position.) Notice: Do not pull the shift lever ball stud forward of the transmission shift lever ball stud during installation. Pulling the shift cable end forward of the transmission shift lever ball stud before installing the shift cable end to the transmission shift lever ball stud will result in a poor adjustment.
    5. Connect the end of the shift cable to the transmission shift lever stud ball.
    6. Press the locking tab IN in order to secure the shift cable to the transmission bracket.
