Question about 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

I have a 2007 Chevy Malibu. A few days ago a sudden and very LOUD rattling started coming from the front end. So loud I can hear it from my.house if my car is running. Doesn't get worse or better over bumps. And is constant whether driving or parked. No idea what it is!

Check the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft. They do come loose and will rattle with the pulses of the engine.

SOURCE: RUBBING NOISE

check to see if the rear tires are making contact with the rear struts or springs, sometimes if you tow a heavy load with these cars it bends the spring perchs down and they rub on the inside tread of the tire, also be sure you have the right tire size on the car please rate -jeff

SOURCE: Front end noise

Sounds like rust build up on the rotors, this is a common problem with after market rotors,or it is a squealer tab and they squeal to warn you before damage is done to the rotors when brake pads are 2/3 worn down.have a brake inspection done.

It sounds like you have a bad c v or constant velocity joint. Look under the car next to the wheel look for a rubber accordian type unit, if the rubber is torn or lose the grease has escaped and damaged the joint. You can replace it yourself, but if your not mechanically inclined would say take it to a shop.

SOURCE: Rumbling & grinding under front end

Watch out! You might have a loose wheel! Check those wheel nuts. If not, a loose brake caliper, or last if not least, a bad wheel bearing. Don't drive it until you find out what the heck is wrong! Could be dangerous.

could be the power steering pump itself. If it has a bad bearing it will do that. Especially when you turn it makes the steering pump work a lot harder.

Thought it might be the hubs due to 22 inch rims. Had'em replaced didnt help. Had the brakes replaced in august of 2010. Didnt help and already need to be replaced. In 4 high after a snow a few days ago...

I'd be looking at driveshafts. They cause vibrations, rattles, squeaks and uncountable other symptoms. You didn't really say what was happening in your description. I'd be looking at driveline - driveshafts, hangar bearings and possibly transfer case and front bearings.

Loud squeaking and rattling when you accelerate after a stop

Is the underside rusty? If so, take it to a qualified welding and autobody repair shop to have new metal welded on.

Your symptoms sound like the engine or transmission mounts may have deteriorated.

I hear a loud ratteling noise coming from where

The rattle is likely a loose shield or a bad catalytic converter. As for the loud banging, Have you checked the front U-joints behind the brake rotors. As for the Reverse noise? Auto or stick shift?

2003 Chevy Malibu driver's window won't work

If it is a very loud noise, then it may be the window regulator. This is the assembly that the motor and glass bolt to. The door panel would have to come off to inspect.
