first thing I would try, disconnect the battery to the car for a minute, then reconnect it. that may correct your problem.

Sounds like a stuck thermostat. The thermostat cycles open and closed in order to maintain a temperature range, some cars with very sensitive gauges reflect this opening and closing, but most cars have gauges that are somewhat less responsive in order to keep people from thinking something is wrong. I would defineately replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system, replacing the fluid with fresh.

Are you sure there are no air pockets in the cooling system ?
You should have heat anytime the engine temp is above 140 degrees regardless what the thermostat is doing.

2003 Audi A6 temp goes to 120 overheats then down to 90 and oil symbols comes also

I would check the thermostat first. Remove the thermostat and place it in a pan of water on the stove. Place a thermometer in the water with the thermostat and slowly increase the temperature until you have reached 194 degrees Fahrenheit or 90 degrees Celsius. Watch closely for the thermostat to open slightly. If it opens then the thermostat is good. If it does not open, replace it. Try that first and see what you come up with.

fans came late on those car, like 212 and second fan comes on at 224,you reprogram it to come a lot sooner,,other thing is there might be gunk inside the block, and coolant has hard time to pass through, and staying longer than enough in block temp goes high, even tough the radiator is doing it's job,it is just coming out block lot hotter than it suppose to be,and gauge read the block not the radiator

Have you considered flushing out the cooling system?? I think if the heater core is plugged up with a film internal your not going to get efficient heat

Here's the way I usually approach problems such as this. First I'll hook up a scan tool that allows me to see the actual engine coolant temperature is [not just what the gauge says] as the vehicle is being driven down the road at highway speeds. The coolant should be near the 192 - 200 degree range to get the best heat out of the heater. If the coolant temp is below that level then the amount of heat you'll get will drop according. IF the coolant is reaching full temp but the air coming from the heater isn't very warm then you could have a restricted heater core or a temp control door in the ductwork that isn't working properly and is allowing cold air to sneak past the heater core. Usually if you have a water pump impeller problem you'll also have an overheating problem as the pump often isn't able to move enough water through the radiator to keep the engine cool. Hope this gives you a starting point and good luck!

Engine temp goes up to 230 degrees

It's actually normal for engine temps to go up to 220 deg. F or 230 deg. F in the summer time, even in normal engines that run at 196 deg. F typically.

This happened to me with no malfunctions on my 1997 Cadillac Deville, yesterday.

Actually, engines run more efficiently at higher temperatures like this.

Just make sure your coolant is topped off and that it fluctuates between lower temperatures and this high reading.

This is a normal temperature in my experience for GM vehicles.

What is the engine operating temp. for a 2002 chev. trailblazer 6 cyl engine

Most engine operrating temperatures are 180-190 degrees. If the coolant gets hotter it turns to steam.
