Question about Cars & Trucks
I have a Series 2 commodore SSV Ute, I'm not sure about the other gears but in first gear when I reach 5500 RPM the engine cuts out. That's the only way to describe it. It's like turning the motor off as soon as it reaches 5500 Revs.No engine light comes on the instrument panel either. When you change gear its light nothing happened, the car runs perfectly fine again. When the rev limiter cuts in shouldn't it stop the car from going any faster rather than cut the motor completely? It could be very dangerous specially when it happens for the first time as it was with me.
Most likely an rpm limiter sensor that prevents you from blowing the motor
moving from 1st to 2nd or any gear should be done at no more than 4000 rpms as the engine is outside the torque range and is just a waste of fuel

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Have someone handy to press the gas pedal for you after the engine has warmed up well; best if driven.
While you listen at the exhaust pipe, have your helper increase the revs slowly and note whether the exhaust note changes to a hiss, instead of the sound of an engine firing.
You may have a decayed catalytic convertor and when they come apart inside, they can clog mufflers and resonators (the second, smaller muffler).
I've had this happen on more than one car and when it happened on a Fiat Strada years ago, since the routing of the system was fairly straight and made of heavier gauge stainless steel, I fired two shots with a .357 magnum into the tailpipe.
Never had another problem with it.

Fist thing to do is change the transmission fluid and filter. Audi says the transmissions have lifetime fluid, but that's bull - change it first and see if that helps. If not, have the car scanned by a shop and have the chassis codes looked into. If there's a true electrical control problem, there should be at least one code stored (which may not trip the check-engine light).

Give it a complete tune-up, New spark plug and wire.new Ignition coil. Depending on the engine either replace ,Cap and rotors or coil packs. Also might want to get the fuel injectors service

hi i am dieter
here is something to try
keep some cold water with you and the next time it happens very quickly get out and pour the water on the crankshaft sensor then restart. If it starts right away without the usual two minutes than you will need to change this sensor. The sensor is easy to find you will see a wiring harness around the crankshaft pulley(the large one at the bottom the basically runs all your accessories like the p/s pump, alternator, water pump). Try to famaliarize yourself as to the location of the sensor first so that you can try to restart it within about 30 seconds.
