Remember safety at all times. You will have to get under your vehicle. Wheel blocks, jacks, wheel ramps, jack stands, or what ever, safety, safety, safety. The filter is inside the transmission oil pan. Have a catch pan ready, you may have a drain plug so drain via plug, if not remove pan bolts from rear of pan towards front of pan leaving a few bolts loosened but not removed, at front so pan doesn't drop down and spill oil all over you and surrounding area, loosen pan from trans, tilt pan towards catch pan and empty of oil. Remove remaining bolts and drop pan. Remove filter from bottom of trans ,you will recognize when compared to new filter. Be very, very careful in removal so you can reinstall gasket, or O ring and filter correctly. Clean gasket material off trans bottom and trans pan, replace trans gasket on pan ( TIP ) screw corner bolts thru pan and gasket for easier installation, get pan started replace other bolts. Tighten bolts in zig zag fashion, fill with proper trans oil marked on dip stick. Start and run vehicle till warm, top off oil, but don't over fill.
Just a little advise, if you've never done this before , it is a very messy job, you may want to take it your local repair shop where they can also make adjustments as needed, IT'S WORTH THE MONEY and you may wish you did. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

You remove the transmission pan and then remove the old filter. Make sure you remove the old seal out of the valve body and install new filter with new seal and re-install pan. Fill with fluid and you are done.

2000 gmc jimmy will not go into overdrive

There are a number of things that could cause this issue.

Now this is going to sound kind of "out there" but, does the engine temperature actually come up to around 195°, more or less?

The reason i ask that is IF the engine isn't up to proper temperature the computer will NOT allow the transmission to shift into overdrive.

Hope this helps.

My 1999 chevy blazer wont shift out of low

My husband had the same problem with his 1988 S10 Blazer. We drained the tranny, cleaned out the pan and put in a new filter etc. Filled with new fluid and all problems solved. Shifts better now then before the tranny service.

Transmission slipping in 95 blazer

You could try a transm. drain and refill and replace the fluid filter while doing so. When you drop the transmission pan (after draining), check for how much metal shavings are in the pan. There should be a magnet on the pan to collect shavings. If it doesn't look like too much, you could proceed with the filter change, then replace gasket for pan and put pan back on, and refill transm. and try it. Sometimes a fluid and filter helps, sometimes not if damage is too severe.

I have a 1997 Blazer in need of a new 4 wheel drive transmission. What year Blazer, Jimmy, GMC, S10, have compatiable transmissions for my vehicle?

All of the ones listed and 98 will work too. The transfer case comes off the end of the tranny and the tailshft housing comes off the two wheel drive tranny and the transfer case bolts right on, So all the two wheel drive trannys will work too. 97 and 98. Others will work too but you can't just plug them righ in as some of the sensers and switches are different. The junkyard that your dealing with if their any good will tell more that'll work than this and the changes that'll make even more trannys fit.

91 gmc shifts in and out of overdive

I had an 89 Suburban that started doing the same thing. Change the fluid/filter and add a quart of Lucas Transmission Fix. See how that does. Ultimately, you are going to have to rebuild or replace the transmission as the problem will only get worse in the end. Mine finally went down completely and cost me about $2700 to rebuild.
