Question about Cars & Trucks

95 Honda accord has been having a extra hard time starting when engine is all warmed up. I have to literally put my foot lightly on gas pedal to keep it on whiles turning key on to start. Its not a main relay, this is odd.tune up fresh, oil good, antifreeze good, new temp sensor, cold air intake. Just noticed a slight crack starting to happen on the headers....any ideas????

Check maf, map and tps sensor. Could also be a idle control valve.

Stuttering acceleration

Has the engine light come on yet?

1 Answer

Car will not accelerate when gas pushed

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

I have a 1994 Honda Accord 4 door v6. I have rough idle when in drive and smooth idle when in neutral. Also rough take offs from a stop or slow speeds. If I pump the gas pedal a few time the rough take...

  • does the engine miss? bumps is a rythmic pattern?
  • an engine miss will appear to diminish at higher rpm due to centrifical force.
  • other possible problem broken or flat motor mount.
  • is the idle rough in reverse?
  • if not
  • open hood
  • start engine
  • Left foot on brake (hard)
  • start engine
  • watch engine as you select drive
  • still holding brake with left foot / throttle gas with right foot
  • does engine dramatically move?
  • if so replace motor mount on offending side
  • if not possible engine miss or transmission problems

94 Honda Accord Ex While driving, the car starts to 'stutter' around 1500RPM, keeping at it as I keep my foot lightly on the pedal and maintain that speed. It doesn't really **** the car violently, but...

hi, yes, it sounds like you have clogged EGR tubes in the intake. You haven't removed the EGR valve altogether I hope... but the exhaust gas recirculation transfer tubes on these honda 2.2 liter and 2.3 liter engines get clogged commonly. If you look into the engine at the intake manifold runners, there will tiny little round plugs about half way down before the engine. These are casting block off plugs when the intake was manufactured, but they block off the EGR passages. You may want to have a professional shop perform this repair, but you can drill into the plugs and remove with a small slide hammer, then clean out with bottle(small wire round) brushes, or brake clean chemical. You will need to go to a honda dealer and purchase EGR passage steel plugs(maybe 10-20) and when it is all clean, re-install the steel plugs with hammer and punch. should fix that problem! Hope I could help.

03 Honda Accord EX will occasionally flood on a cold morning; ~17 F etc. After it has warmed up and all other times it starts OK. This does not happen often but I am concerned that it will leave my wife...

When it's very cold and the car will start right away, the most common thing that happens is the engine will flood. When you turn the key to start, the gas is sprayed into the engine. It does not know that the car didn't start and will continue to spray gas as long as the key it turned to start. That is why you should not crank for longer than 20-30 seconds at a time.
Then if it will not start, hold your gas pedal all the way to the floor, and the gas spray is stopped, so that the extra gas can be expelled. You can now try to start agian normally.

It sounds like you need a complete tune up and have the cooling system fushed and filled as well. It sound like it needs some TLC.
