Where????
On the engine-depends on the manufacturers recommendation. Some times you have to do it on the cold or hot engine -depends on the car. (IF you mean the engine valves of cource:)

The figure you are asking for isn't generally included in the data and much depends on the engine design and the sort of work you are carrying out.
Mostly the specs for the block and pistons and cylinder head are given separately and if they are adhered to the piston to valve clearance is never an issue.

Mostly diesel engine pistons are graded for height so the correct protrusion above the cylinder block face can be adjusted. With a wet-linered engine the liner is adjusted by inserting shims to also have a small protrusion above the block face.

After machining the face of a cylinder head the height of the valves above or below the head face should be checked against specs and will often require lowering by cutting the valves seats further into the head.

Engines that do not use height graded pistons tend to use a selective thickness head gasket.

I am on the wrong computer to offer you any specs but any good data book or repair manual will provide them.

Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a ASE certified professional . You do not have the tools to diagnose this or the information.
DTC P0753
The 1-2 shift solenoid (1-2 SS) valve controls transmission fluid pressure acting on the 1-2 shift valves to position the valves for the appropriate gear. The 1-2 SS valve is a normally-open exhaust valve located on the control valve body. A fused circuit supplies ignition voltage to the 1-2 SS valve. The PCM commands the solenoid ON or OFF by switching the ground path. When the 1-2 SS valve is commanded ON, the PCM senses low voltage. When the 1-2 SS valve is commanded OFF, the PCM senses high voltage. Refer to Shift Solenoid Valve State and Gear Ratio .
If the PCM detects a continuous open, short to ground or short to power in the 1-2 SS valve circuit, then DTC P0753 sets. DTC P0753 is a type B DTC.
DTC P0753 sets when one of the following conditions occurs for 5 seconds:
Condition 1 The PCM commands the solenoid ON and voltage feedback remains high, B+.
Condition 2 The PCM commands the solenoid OFF, and the voltage feedback remains low, 0 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Send the valve settings for a toyota 3L engine


Valve setting? Most engine valves have an automatic adjuster to self adjust the setting. You didn't say you had it apart. So, I'm thinking you have a dirty condition that would make the adjuster or valve tap. If so good additives just for both those conditions can restore the adjusting by cleaning and freeing the ailing parts. Try the link below for more info and needed product. Engine cold intake valve setting is (0.13-0.17mm) exhaust valve setting is (.23-0.27mm). Engine warmed up the valve settings are intake valves (0.17-0.21mm) exhaust valve settings are (0.28-0.32mm). Valve Clearance Valve clearance is there to allow the valves to cool in between combustion events (spark), and to make sure the valve closes properly and contains the combustion explosion. You need to cool the valves a little bit, the exhaust valve moreso than the inlet, as it's what sees the most heat as spent burnt gases go past it into the exhaust port. Run too little clearance and you'll cause the valve to "weld" a little bit to its' seat every time it closes, and then take seat metal off again when it opens. Do this enough times and you burn out the valve seat and need the head reconditioned. However, by running less clearance, the valve stays open for that little but longer, and you get more air in and out of the motor, and make more power. Run too much clearance and your motor just sounds like a diesel and loses power and tappet rattle annoys you while you're driving, so it's better to err on the side of caution.
The stock valve clearance (0.008" inlet / 0.012" exhaust, warm) is pretty good for any of the cams I've listed above, they're well-sized street cams, not really wild top heavy race cams that require super high compression to work, so don't be afraid to close the valves up a bit from the suggestions of the cam grinder, which will usually say between 0.010" and 0.014". There are a few ways to set your valve clearances:
Yellow Book Method This is from the factory 3K/4K/5K engine manual, aka The Yellow Books. It's the quick and lazy method.
Set engine to #1 TDC. Crank pulley timing mark should be on 0, distributor rotor should be pointing towards spark plug 1 or 2. Set tappets (counting from the front) 1, 2, 3 and 5. Rotate engine 360 degrees, crank pulley to 0 again, distributor rotor turned 180 degrees. Set tappets 4, 6, 7 and 8.
Nine Method I've never really gotten into doing this, takes too much time and maths for my liking :P Rotate the engine through its' range of movement, as one valve is "on the rock" of its' max lift, subtract the valve number from 9 and that's the tappet you should be setting. For example, if #8 valve is open, set clearance on valve #1. If valve #7 is open, set clearance on #2. And so on.
Stewart uses this method, and rotates the camshaft through its entire base circle and sets the clearance at the highest point. Which is a pretty good idea, as it compensates for the possibility that the base circle has been ground unevenly, and allows you to run the proper valve clearance that you want to run, instead of something that may be a few thou larger in reality.

With the tappet cover off, rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation until you see #4 cylinder valves rock - open/close in succession. This will be TDC on #1 - set the valve clearances. Turn the engine until your see #2 valves rock, set #5 valves, turn the engine till #6 valves rock, set # 3 valves, turn the engine until #3 valves rock, set # 6 valves, turn engine till #5 valves rock, set # 2 valves, turn engine till #1 valves rock, set # 4 valves. Once you have located #1 TDC (the second mark in the pulley should be lined up with the cover mark), it is only 60 deg. to get to the next cylinder to set. If you accidentally go past the setting point, go back and approach the setting point again in the direction of engine rotation. When you come to setting # 6 the TDC marks should be aligned again.

All of a sudden, my 2004 Ford Taurus heater control doesn't work. Hot air ALWAYS comes out, no matter where the temp control is set. Even if set in AC mode the air is VERY HOT! Help!


The valve (called the heater tap) which controls the hot water flow works from engine vacuum. The climate control unit turns vacuum on to close the valve and turns vacuum off to open it, if the vacuum tubing or vacuum service valve has failed, the tap will be open allowing hot water to flow. The same result applies if the heater valve itself has failed (which they do --regularly) Trace the water hoses from the enginebay firewall under the hood and you should find the valve. Check for cavuum at the valve with the climate control set to its coldest setting. If you have vacuum at the valve, replace the valve. No vacuum points to the loss of vacuum source or a faulty vacuum service valve with will be electrically operated from the climate control. Trace the vacuum hose from the heater valve back to the vacuum service valve and check if the valve has vacuum supplied to it. No vacuum means a vacuum hose has blocked, has a hole in it or has been removed from the manifold. If the electrical valve has vacuum, check for power. If power is present but still no vacuum at the heater tap, replace the service valve. If power missing, check fuses. If both wires to the valve show power present, have the climate controll unit checked by a professional..
