You need to do a compression test and check for oil in antifreeze or antifreeze in oil, take out all your spark plugs, if some looks super clean then you might have found a blown head gasket.

SOURCE: v6 malibu running hot no water in oil no white

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

SOURCE: 2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head.This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor.The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help.This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

SOURCE: I have a water leak

first is it coolant or water? If its water its not your engine, its the condensation leaking from your air conditioner/heater--which is normal.

1998 malibu can hear fuel pump wen switch is on but wont start as long as we put fuel in top of motor it will run till itruns out could it be relay on fuel pump changed filter

the fuel pump will run for 2 secondes with key on to prime system. then when you crank engine it should run all the time. you check fuse and if current go to fuel pump at tank connector. if there is current then the fuel pump must be defect.

replace thermostat as if its not working it is not letting cooled water from radiator to curculate engine. if not done it could do damage ie head gasket, warp head

1999 chevy malibu ran hot and would not crank. changed egr valve and not cranks but runs very rough and not sure oil is getting to head.

you overheated it and then it would not turn over?i would check for anti freeze mixing with the oil and then do a compression test on all of the cylinders in case you blew a head gasket

Car is overheating and i replaced the intake manifold gaskets

Did you replace the thermostat? Take off the radiator cap and see if this helps. Sometimes the caps also go bad. Warm up the engine after you make sure there is plenty of coolant in the radiator. Look into the radiator and make sure the water in circulating when it is running. If it is not, it could be you water pump, or thermostat is stuck and not opening. Be careful not to burn yourself and do not let the motor get to hot.

2001 chevelot malibu 3001 engine is running hot. new head gakets, flushed everything for an hour, checked water pump, new thermostat nothing seems to help.......HELP

this engine needs the water/coolant blead on the top of the engine you should see a pipe with a screw insert ,if not find the top hose ie any water hose at the top of the engine and open it while the engine is running.You should see water /air coming out if the pipe keep going until all air/bubbles is gone.With all air gone the system should be ok,ren for 2 miles and blead again.please rate this answer.adrian,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
