Usually if you smell gas in the cabin the odor is coming in thru the vents from the engine compartment. Is there a fuel leak around the engine or the vapor canister ?

Bmw 1995 series 7 intermittent gas odor

Hi Jerry, The smell of fuel can be the smell of danger. I suggest that if you are unable to find the source of the smell, take the vehicle for an inspection of the entire delivery and return fuel circuits. There could be a leakage and that could be very dangerous. The most likely places are the fuel filter, the gasket which seals the sender and fuel pump unit into the tank, the purge tank or anywhere along the fuel line. Don't guess as that could prove very dangerous. Get it seen to. Regards John

Our 2000 outback has intermittent gas smell when started on cold mornings. Smell in inside the car but gone after driving and warming up the engine. We often go many days with no smell. Our mechanic has...

Fuel Injector might have small leak when cold. The o-ring expands as it cools down and contracts when it heats up. Expansion and contraction. Ive seen it many times on Honda's i don't really work with subaru's that much but its the same concept.

There is an intermittent gas smell.

This is not common on these models. Check all gas lines, pump seals(under the rear seat), gas filler hose for leakes...hopefully this helps

Flooding out. using lots of fuel. black smoke

you could have a bad injector spider if the truck is vortec,if not look to the idle air control valve if this part is bad it won't get the right amount of air and flood the truck out, hints why you are smelling fuel, also look at to o2 sensor if this is bad the computer won't adjust the timing another reason you're smelling fuel . hope this helps you and good luck!
