What is year--make model? If the problem isn't fixed, the code will just come back. A code reader that can read and erase codes will work. also, You could take negative battery cable loose for several seconds, if you try it that way, it could cause other issues. The computer may to relearn engine running parameters. It could also go into security lock, hope not. It's generally not a good idea to take battery cable loose.
