2005 Nissan Altima code P0420

code p0420 refers to the cat converter system-bank 1--efficiency below threshold===causes --wiring--cat converter -- HO2S 2. I would replace the heated oxygen sensor number 2. There is no real life on cat converters as they are extremely fragile and run at extreme temperatures which means that if you hit a icy puddle of water / snow and the cat is hot they are prone to cracking and disintergrating internally and blocking up the exhaust pipe.. In your case I would be looking at the sensor. Use the correct tool so that the wires are no damaged.

Oil come out the oil flow bypass on 450 cat 1998 international

Please be more specific as the oil by pass is inside the engine so do you mean the breather pipe ,have you done a manual oil pressure gauge test to see what the oil pressure is as how can you know if the pressure is too high .

1997 chevy silverado. 350 engine...vortec. trouble code po430....what does it mean? Please answer simply...I am a Woamn and i have already spent lots of money trying to get this fixed, but to no...

This code means that the catalytic converter on the passenger side of the truck is not working as well as it should. You probably need to have a new cat put in but be aware that if the engine is running poorly, this code can set because the cat gets overloaded. Often times people replace the cat because of this code, only to have the problem return because they did not fix the root cause of the cat failing. A tune-up will not necessarily solve the problem either. If the engine has a lot of internal wear and is burning oil, the new cat will fail prematurely because of too much fuel and oil coming out of the engine, through the exhaust system.

I have changed the exspensive o2 sencor and engine light went on for two months then went out. i think bulb burt out but went to autozone and the code po420 came up. do i just need to change that sencor...

The code means 'Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)' which means the computer thinks your catalytic convertor is not functioning properly. However, since the convertor itself doesn't have any sensors, how the computer knows this is via the O2 sensors (both before and aft of the cat). However, if the O2 sensor is dying or faulty it could give erroneous readings that would trigger this code, and the most common one to fail is the downstream, or Bank 1, sensor. The cat is very expensive to replace and usually that would be the last thing you would want to try. O2 sensor failure is quite common but you said you already changed it so.
Another reason you might see this code is if the internal coolant temp sensor is faulty or not functioning. If the computer thinks the coolant is warmer than it really is, it will run the fans more and keep the engine cooler. A cooler engine produces worse emissions than a hotter one so the cat wouldn't get up to the temperature it needs to be to function properly, thus triggering the code. Again, not an expensive sensor to replace and every dealer should be able to test them with a volt meter before blindly replacing them.

Finally, your original cat (and pre-cat) are warrantied by federal law for 8 yrs/80K miles so if your '02 is under 80K it should have been covered by Acura

Catalyst

either your O2 sensor is bad or possible you got a bad cat. below threshold means it detected a lower voltage than was expected.

Loud rattle coming from the bottom of engine. mostly heard after letting off the gas, starting and shutting off the vehicle.

Very hard to know without actually hearing the vehicle but,,,With what you describe, the cat/converter 'may' be making the sound. With the car off and engine cool, get under and give the cat/con a really give shove or hit.The insides of them do corrode and the internals make a very loud rattle. If this isn't the problem it will let you see if there is a loose exhaust mount that may also make a rattle.(The cat/con sound is like there is a very loose metal plate hitting something)Its actually the internals of the cat. that have broken loose and rattling inside it.Hope this helps

P0037 error Heater sensor low voltage Bank 1 sensor 2

That is usually internal O2 sensor heater fault replace the sensor bank1 is the side of a V6 or V8 that has the #1 cylinder on it if ithis is a 4 cylinder that doesn't matter sensor2 means it is the second sensor in line you have 1 closest to the engine and one closer to the cat conv. if you only have 2 sensors in the system that would be the one after the cat, conv.

Computer rejecting cats.

U have not completed the drive cycle, this means the system has not finished its internal self testing of the catalytic converters. A drive cycle is about 30-50 miles of mixed driving, stop and go slow medium and freeway speed driving with a more stops and idling.
