Check for central position of the rack/ steering box. If there has been recent work on the steering ,it is possible that the box/rack was not in the straight ahead position before it was connected up.

SOURCE: when turning steering wheel to left very hard to turn

Sounds like the begining of a bad rack n pinion. We can eliminate the pump because the car turns to the right fine. There is no loss of fluid? The only thing left is the rack. It is a fairly commin issue. Use to call it morning sickness, The cars would be hard to turn in the morning or when first started but after running and warming up for a while they would start to work properly.

SOURCE: steering hard to turn to the left like power

bad steering problems,,your steering rack most likely, but, have you recently been stuck in ditch? when wheels are straight, look at front of car when parked. do wheels look funny? one going one way, and the other going the other? may be alignment. is it leaking any fluid on either side of the front of the car? drivers side? passenger side? if it's not out of alignment,,,wheels out of alignment,,the steering rack is the problem. it may be faulty. if not leaking fluid,it may still be bad. first i would make a visual test look under the vehicle while someone turned the steering wheel to right and left while car is in park, emergency brake on!! look at the steering arms while they turn the steering wheel from right to left. no fluid leaks? any resistance in turning the wheel? any leaks,if so,go to leak and repair with steering line replacement.no leaks? suspect a bad steering rack. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com i love to volunteer

SOURCE: I get a squeaking noise coming from the steering

check your power steering fluid, if it's too low add some, but do not overfill. If that does not work could be the steering arm, might need expert opinion.

Had a similar problem with my Chevy Cargo Van..tumblers in igition old and worn, also noted key/wheel problem like yours. Be extra careful about putting in Park, keeping tension off steering wheel, and being sure key goes in smoothly. Sometimes you just have to jiggle the key and take tension off the wheel. (Beats replacing the ignition locks, etc.)

Key goes into ignition but will not turn, car is in park and steering wheel is locked. How can I get the ignition to turn?

while you SLIGHTLY turn the steering wheel, try to turn the key-do not force the key, you do not want to break it.

My key will not turn

Hum...Try this.

With you left hand on the steering wheel and your right hand on the key, turn the key slightly until you feel resistance. Keep the pressure used to turn the key and pull the steering wheel to the left like you are turning left. If this doesn't work then turn the steering wheel to the right while trying to turn the key. If the problem is caused by the steering wheel lock this should allow you to turn the key and starrt your car. It is a very common issue and shows up alot when cars are parked with the wheels turned somewhat to one side or the other.

Cannot get key to turn in jeep. Have already driven it numerous times today, suddenly can't move steering wheel or gear shift and key will not turn. Help!

Try turning the steering wheel (hard) right and left while turning the key. Steering lock , and ignition lock work in conjunction with each other.

Steering won't unlock so that we can start van

If the wheel is turned left or right try turning it in the same direction the wheels are turned, the steering wheel should move a little and should be able to turn the key while holding the wheel. May need to use some muscle to move the wheel depends on how it was parked.

2000 Toyota Camry - car ignition seems to be jammed or keys worn - has a transponder key just won't turn

What you have is the anti-theft portion of the steering column has became engaged. When you remove the key from the ignition, there is a pin that retracts, and, when the steering wheel is turned, this pin enters a hole in the column's steering shaft. This prevents the car from being "steered" if someone defeats the ignition switch, while trying to steal it. This locking function will not happen if the car is parked with the front wheels straight ahead; the only time the locking function occurs is when the steering wheel is turned left or right, as in parking whilst turning the steering wheel. This is a normal occurrance, the locking of the steering wheel, as it denies steering to potential theives.
SOLUTION: When the key will not turn, try to turn the steering wheel to the left of right (whichever way it is "turned" to), and, simultaneously, turn the key in the ignition. The "turning" of the wheel relaxes the tight fit of the pin into the hole, and then the key will turn, as it retracts the locking pin from the hole in the column. Hope this helps; and thank you for choosing FixYa!
