Question about 1995 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

1995 Jeep wrangler. Paint on Engine hood as turned white as if the paint has worn off. I was told by an auto body shop that there was a recall. I have been unable to locate any information on that rec

Paint damage is limited to the engine hood. The damage is concentrated in the center and has spread to the edges of the hood. I was informed that in fact there WAS a recall on the paint due to a different undercoating utilized on the hood. Thanks

The Body Shop is across the street from my business. And while the Jeep is a 1995 it has only 48,000 miles on it. I am the second owner and basically use it during the Summer months in New York, Topless and door-less. I was inquiring about getting it re-painted. It was the body shop owner that 20 years ago did most of its body work for dealerships and relayed to me that he had repainted a number of Jeeps because they had tried a different primer and those Jeeps were recalled for repaiting. My business does a lot of business with a Jeep dealership in the area. (All of our cars....6 are either purchased or leased through this dealership) The body shop owner told me that the dealership has, "ways" of resolving recalls even being 20 ears old. The salesman we deal with is prepared to bring the issue to the powers that be but through his connections he was unable to find any recall notice or number. The owner of the body shop had no financial gain relaying this recall to me..... he lost out on a $1500+ paint body work job which I will get done anyway if this recall issue is a dead end; knowing he is taking care of me........ neighboring businesses, chamber members etc. and a way he can repay me in taking care of him and his family when they have dealt with my business. I just realized that many recalls go unclaimed and sometimes take 10 - 15= years to come to the surface, so I'm giving it a try to see if anyone has any information regarding paint recalls on 1995 Jeeps.

No Manufacture is going to honor a recall on a 1995 vehicle

Why didn't the body shop know the answer?
Why did you not ask a dealer?

1995 Jeep Wrangler SE 4.0L... It is running rich. I accidentally turned the distrobutor during recent repairs and cannot get the timing back to normal! Everyone i ask says that there is no timing procedure...

there is a static timing setting from which the ECM advances or retards the spark according to sensor reports and rpms
using a timing light connected to no 1 cylinder set the mark on the pulley to 10 degrees btdc and that will allow the timing to work properly
if there is no scale on the timing cover and a small slot th the pulley flange
do this
remove no 1 plug and get no 1 piston coming up on compression
using a piece of copper wire in the plug hole determine when the piston is at TDC by seeing the wire moves up or down as you move the crank either way
place a white paint line at a convenient place on the cover and on the pulley edge
now move the pulley back ( anticlockwise ) about 3/4 of an inch and put a second mark on the timing cover
That second mark will be close to 10 degrees and will be within the parameters for the ECM to adjust the timing when running
using the timing light again turn the body of the distributor until the pulley mark lines up with the second mark you made and clamp it up at that point

What soluntion is v best for my 2000 jeep grand cherokee lorado...i'm having problems with the low door panels as far dicoloring

a great fix for this problem is to take the Jeep to a ' Good ' auto paint shop and have them prep and paint the panels with a good quality anti-fade paint. make sure the paint shop warranties their work against chips and flaking. make sure they are going to use a good quality paint and primer.
this should only cost about 150.00 to 200.00 dollars at a good paint shop, with a turn around time of about 1 1/2 days.
now if you want to avoid that cost -- you can go down to your local auto parts store and buy a spray paint that works on plastics--- you will need to prep, primer and spray the panels following the instructions on the can -- the spray paint that they make these days come in many shades and hold up very well to the weather and sun,,just mask off the Jeep very well so you don't get over spray on the rest of the vehicle. make sure you keep one of the empty spray cans or a half full can around for future color match application. the cost of the spray paint can vary on quality and maker, usually around 8.00 to 16.00 dollars per can,, and primer and other supplies should run you around 30.00 more dollars. call around and shop around and ask lots of questions --- stop buy your local auto paint shop and ask them for a free estimate,, you might find a place that will do it even cheaper then I had quoted above (?).
good luck,

My jeep clicks when i turn the key on and will not start till it quits

If the battery is OK ,then it sounds like a faulty / intermittent Earth connection. Check all the battery power and earth leads where they connect to the Battery, Engine, Starter Motor and Body. If possible disconnect, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint that could cause a poor connection, and reconnect making sure all are tight.

What type of silver paint is used on the year 2000 models as i have to repaint part of mine

There should be a tag somewhere under the hood with paint number on it...any body shop can show you where yours is. But, don't be surprised if the paint you buy does not exactly match what is on the car now...different "batches" are not the same and what is on the car has changed from sun exposure. A good paint shop mixes the original paint they get in the can with white etc to get a better match than you can.

I purchased my Endeavor in 2004, and it has been garage kept since then. This past year I noticed the paint fading really bad on the hood and on top. My dealership nearby where I take my car to get...

I have a 2004 Black Mitsubishi Endeavor with the exact same problem and of course the paint is no longer under warranty. I called 1-888-MITSU2009 (Mon-Fri 8-7 central time). The woman (Mariam) told me to take it to a local Mitsubishi dealer to have the paint inspected. She said they should be able to advise me from there, but if not, call Mitsubishi back and let them know what the dealer said regarding the inspection. I took it to a dealer and had to talk to several different people before they got me to the right one. He looked at it and said it was definitely bad paint. I got a bit lucky because there happened to be a regional Mitsubishi rep. there that day, who also looked at it and said, right there on the spot, that they would take care of it. This was a Friday just a few weeks ago and the following Monday my truck was in a body shop being painted ($4,000 paint job). The Mitsubishi representative told me this seems to be a problem with both black and silver mitsubishi's in and around 2004. Apparantly they are looking at these paint issues case by case, however, I think that is wrong. If you google "bad paint 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor", which I did, you'll be shocked at the number of people with this problem and Mitsubishi hasn't issued some kind of recall. But, they fixed mine. Mileage seems to be a factor, if there is a ton of miles on it they may not cover it. I have 68,700 miles and it was OK. The mitsu rep. also said if it were 1 year older, it probably wouldn't be covered.

Anyway, call the number I posted for you and start there. Its worth the effort - I was ready to get rid of mine, but I like it for one, and wouldn't get much in a trade because of the paint. I also looked into getting it painted - It just looked horrible - all over the hood, roof, down the back lift gate, and some down the doors - horrible. Definitely worth the effort trying with Mitsubishi - saved me $4,000.

Good Luck to You!

It should be located within the serial number. Any dealer or body shop should be able to assist you with this.
