You find the evaporator frozen along with the lines and the compressor. What other steps must be taken before hooking up gauges to it?

Sound like a blocked or bad expansion valve. If you have access to where it is located. tapping on usually opens it but it's not a fix, it will lock up again.

It depends on the problem. Either you don't have enough air passing thru the evap core, or the level of freon is not right, or there is a restriction in the ac lines.
A mechanic would use a set of pressure gauges to check freon flow.

Replaced compressor evap/dryer and the hccv still blowing very hot air


Sure.
If one of the ac lines is hot and the other is cold, the blend door could be faulty and not letting air blow thru the evaporator core.
The compressor is running and the gauge readings are normal, right ?

COMPRESSOR ON & OFF FREON LEVEL OK


You need to hook up a gauge and read the pressures on the low and high side. It will cut out if the pressure drops too low or goes too high. If it was properly evacuated and charged I would assume it is probably high pressure cut out which would be indicative of a plugged orifice tube or restriction in the system (line, condenser, evaporator.

Hi have an 04 hyundai tiburon i dont know where to locate where to put freon for my aid condtioner


STEPS TO CHARGING YOUR CARS COOLING SYSTEM:

STEP 1) Look under the hood of you car on the left side of your cars engine. There should be two stainless steel lines coming from a stainless steel cylinder to your cars compressor. The two lines have plastic dust caps on them sometimes they are blue or black. Usally the black has the larger diameter tubing that runs between the evaporator and the compressor. This will be the port that you hook the refrigerant hose up to.

STEP 2) Start your cars engine after you have secured the hose hook up to the air conditioner line port. Once the cars engine is running, turn your cars AC on to Max cool. Shake the can of coolant well. The gauge on the can of coolant should read in the blue but if it is in the green your air conditioners pressure will be between 0-25 pounds per square inch. This means you will have to add refrigerant to the compressor.

If your cars air conditioner pressure is in the blue. The system has the proper amount of refrigerant and you do not need to add. If the gauge reads in the yellow you may want to seek professional help because refrigerant is not what is wrong with the unit and is probably something more technical and most likely something that you do not want to attempt to do on your own. The red on the gauge means do not add any refrigerant at all and to seek professional help.

STEP 3) If the pressure of your air conditioning system is in the green it means it is safe to add the refrigerant. You should wait for your air conditioning compressor to switch on before squeezing the trigger to add the coolant. When the compressor switches off then release the trigger and repeat until your pressure gauge on the coolant can says that the coolant is in the proper range. If the needle on the gauge is in the top part of the blue you have successfully charged your cars air conditioning unit.

STEP 4) Release the attachment from the tubing port and replace the dust cap back in it's proper place and you are done. The cars air should be cool and your compressor should cut off and on less often. If problems persist you should consult a mechanic or someone that has experience with air conditioning systems.

The A/C is blowing hot air. The compressor comes on, the fan is turning for the A/C and a local Firestone put freon in saying it was low. The Firestone says the compressor or evaporator is bad. I have...


could be pressure switch. When the guy put 134a in...find out what the pressure readings were on the suction line to find out if the compressor was working. May as well hook up the high side as well to get both readings. If there's a decent separation between the two....the compressor works. The evaporator is just a radiator, there's a metering device for the refrigerant into the evaporator, but the only thing that goes wrong with an evaporator is a leak.

Where is the low pressure port for adding freon


This one took me 30 mins to find, its at the back of the engine at the center of the firewall (below the windshield ) . This is where the a/c lines go into the car ( evaporator) its hard to see if your tall . Remove the cap and attach your gauge . Good luck.

My compressor kicks in an out rapidly


Cycling clutch is a normal design. If the compressor were to run all of the time, you would ice up in the evaporator.

Now, the question is: is the system cycling correctly. Odds are yes. But to know you must hook up pressure gauges and measure the termprature in front of the condencer and at the evaporator (or discharge vent).

These readings will tell you if it is working correctly...

Air conditioner in 1999 mercury tracer won't work. It's not the compressor nor does it have a leak. what could be the problem?


the tracer is the same as the ESCORT, right?? TRY THIS--I WORK ON PLENTY OF ESCORTS--LOOK UNDER THE AIR CLEANER/CONE ASSEMBLY--THERE WILL BE A BLACK METAL BOX(FULL OF RELAYS) ONE OF WHICH IS THE A/C RELAY--TRY TAPPING ON IT WITH A LONG SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING SIMILAR WHILE U HAVE THE A/C ON. IF THE A/C SUDDENLY STARTS WORKING U NEED TO GET A NEW RELAY BOX(I THINK ITS CALLED A GEM MODULE) i do have a question- does the blower motor work?? how do u know the compressor is good??do you have 12 volts going to it??? this relay box is pretty common to go bad--u have to remove the air cleaner in order to get to it.get back to me.
