Question about 2000 Pontiac Sunfire

2000 Pontiac sunfire dash lights coming on and gauges randomly go crazy

Replaced the battery with a brand new one had the alternator tested its good. I then replaced the ground wire from the battery to the block... im confused please help

Sounds like the connection on the back side of the instrument panel may have come loose.

Check the wiring harness that runs under your battery tray to just behind the headlights it get corroded. May have to rewire each wire individually and run a new ground.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the dash board or a bare wire crossing over another which would cause your battery to drain also. good luck they are hard to find

2000 Pontiac Sunfire new battery new alternator wont charge


About the only thing you'll be able to check is for battery voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ! If there is no voltage there you have a burnt fusible link ! The other two wires at the connector come from the engine computer ! Is the charge light lit on the dash ?

Where did you buy the alternator? Charge the battery and have them both tested.

Help! I realize I cannot assist but my 96 Sunfire does just as you stated in your posting on May 28, 2010. I assume by now you already determined the problem. Your response would be appreciated.

Problem with dash gauges and AC


I had this happen to me, and I was amazed to find out that the battery caused the probblem.It had two dead cells and it was only a week old.

Alternator or BCM problem ? Gauges drop


it is not the BCM, go to any Kragen or Autozone parts store, have them test the alt, the test is free
