Depending on the vehicle, you might have a return spring under the hood that is suppose to keep tension on the throttle cable that needs looked at.

My gas pedal is loose. can I just tighten the cable to take up the slack in the gas pedal

Yes. make sure there is a bit of free play, you don't want to not be able to slow down!

Loose gas pedal

I would expect to find the cable has stretched or is about to break, or the pivot pin is falling out of the pedal hinge.

Starts turns on for 10sec turns off starts again step on gas pedal but turns off replaced gas filter

Check the large diameter tube going from the intake manifold to the mass air flow sensor. Sometimes this tube vibrates loose depending on if the last person that worked on it remembered to tighten the clamp holding it on.

1997 Eldorado carborator installation

Actually it should be very simple... There are 4 Nuts on the carburater which you can loosen. There are some linkages from Carb to the gas pedal, Choke...They need to be remove.. but do it as to remember how to put it back when installing a new one.
Now make sure they give you a new fiber/asbestos gasket. This is important.. If it leaks... you will not get good gas milage
once the carb is on.. tighten all 4 nuts, do not overtight them, but tighten them

New suzuki swift gas pedal too light to press means over revving and stalling. Can I tighten it? How can I get some resistance behind the pedal

use a stronger spring, have a look under dash and you will see the accelerator pedal has a return spring, either shorten it for more resistance(heavier feel) or replace it,easy to fix,you can even put a little return spring at the throttle end on the engine if youre careful it doesnt foul anything

Gas pedal is to lose

Your gas pedal is connected by cable to your throttle. It is connected by a small stopper. If it is to loose, you can get a spacer and tighten up the space, or your best bet is to check where the cable is mounted on the engine. Your looseness may be coming from there. If it is not connected to the engine, that is your problem.

Emergency brake push pedal goes clear to floor. needs tightening.

there is an adjustment under the van near the frame driver side near the gas filler tube.. use a wrench to tighten the cables...also check and see if your shoes are worn out. the farther they wear, the less your emergency brake will hold. Finally if none of this works, you may have stretched cables and have to replace them....
