Ignition tumblers are sticking. at this point best to replace ignition as most of the time it will fail again as the parts are warn out. as long as the key still turns in ignition it will be cheaper to fix.

SOURCE: key gets stuck in ignition

My daughter drives a Suzuki, my solution to her is: while the gear shift lever is in park, lightly put pressure on the gear shift lever, through the park position and while pressing the gear shift towards park light rock left to right while trying to remove the key.

The interlock between the transmission and the ignition switch needs to be adjusted/ repaired or replaced.

1st Remove Battery cable from Battery because the only time the air bags will deploy is when the key is in the ignition. I have tilt steering and when I put the steering wheel in the up most position. I came right out. But now it seems to stick more lately.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge durango ignition switch is stuck in locked position

Your tumblers are worn. You can "Bump" the lock to get it to work, but this is a very temporary fix. To bump the lock, simply tap on the end of the key with something heavy like a short 2X4 , the heal of a shoe or something similar - while in the ignition while attempting to turn the key to the start position. DO NOT turn the engine back of until you get the car home or to a repair facility.

My headlights stay on even when key removed but the turn signals still work

You might have a bad ignition switch. Do the other accessory power features stay on too? Eg .... Radio, blower fan... Do the turn signals still operate when key is removed? But a bad multifunction switch (turn signal, headlight switch) coukd also be bad.

FIRST OF ALL, TURN OFF RADIO,DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. IF EQUIPPED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMN,REMOVE TILT LEVER.CAREFULLY REMOVE THE UPPER AND LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVERS. REMOVE THE 3 TAMPER PROOF TORX IGNITION SWITCH MOUNTING SCREWS USING SNAP ON TOOL TTXR15A2 OR EQUIVALENT. GENTLY PULL THE SWITCH AWAY FROM THE COLUMN AND REMOVE THE 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. WITH THE KEY IN THE LOCK POSITION, DEPRESS THE KEY CYLINDER RETAINING PIN FLUSH WITH THE KEY CYLINDER SURFACE. ROTATE THE KEY CLOCKWISE TO THE OFF POSITION THE KEY CYLINDER SHOULD NOW BE UNSEATED. ROTATE THE KEY CYLINDER COUNTER CLOCKWISE BACK TO THE LOCK POSITION, AND REMOVE THE LOCK CYLINDER. ( TO INSTALL ) CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. BE SURE THE CONNECTORS ARE SECURELY LOCKED IN PLACE. MOUNT THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE COLUMN 3 SCREWS FOR VECHICLES WITH THE TILT STEERING COLUMN THE SHIFTER MUST BE IN THE PARK POSITION AND THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN AND THE COLUMN LOCK FLAG MUST BE INDEXED BEFORE THE SWITCH IS INSTALLED. PLACE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION. PLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE LOCK POSITION. THE SWITCH IS IN THE LOCK POSITION WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK FLAG IS PARALLEL TO THE IGNITION SWITCH TERMINALS. POSITION THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN OF THE IGNITION SWITCH SO IT ENGAGES THE STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SLIDER LINKAGE. APPLY A LIGHT COATING OF GREASE TO THE PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN AND THE COLUMN LOCK FLAG. POSITION THE IGNITION SWITCH AGAINST THE LOCK HOUSING OPENING ON THE STEERING COLUMN. BE SURE THE SWITCH PARK LOCK DOWEL PIN ENTERS THE SLOT IN THE PARK LOCK SLIDER LINKAGE INSTALL THE RETAINING SCREW AND BRACKET. TORQUE THE SCREW TO 26 INCH LBS. INSTALL THE STEERING COLUMN COVERS AND THE TILT LEVER IF REMOVED. WITH THE KEY CYLINDER AND THE IGNITION IN THE LOCK POSITION INSTALL THE KEY CYLINDER INTO THE SWITCH UNTIL IT BOTTOMS. Need to change the Clutch Pedal Ignition Switch; do you have instructions how to do this?

Removal & Installation
  1. To prevent accidental air bag deployment, disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive battery cable to allow residual energy in the air bag system to drain.
  2. Remove the steering column shroud(s).
  3. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the ignition switch.
  4. Insert the key into the ignition switch, then rotate the ignition key lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  5. Remove the two screws attaching the ignition switch.
  6. Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator pin and remove the switch.
To install:
A new ignition switch purchased from Ford will already be set in the RUN position.
  1. Adjust the new ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the RUN position.
  2. Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the RUN position. The RUN position is achieved by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the LOCK position.
  3. Install the ignition switch onto the actuator pin.
  4. Align the switch mounting holes and install the attaching screws. Tighten the screws to 50-69 inch lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  5. Attach the electrical connector to the ignition switch.
  6. Connect the positive, then the negative battery cables. Check the ignition switch for proper function in START and ACC positions. Make sure the column is locked in the LOCK position.
  7. Install the steering column shroud(s).
Is this the one you are asking about?

The Key was stuck in the ignition position and it was locked there, what is the matter with it?

Sounds like the ignition lock cylinder has gone out on you. Also a possiblilty is the ignition switch itself, though less likely than the other.

the ignition switch is the electrical part behind the lock cylinder where the key goes in.

Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder
Lock Cylinder Functional
Removal
  1. The following procedure applies to vehicles that have a functional ignition switch lock cylinder (11582) and keys. If the key numbers are known, the correct key can be made. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  1. Place a 3.17-mm (1/8-inch) diameter wire pin or small drift punch in the hole in the steering column shroud under the ignition switch lock cylinder. Depress the retaining pin while pulling out on the ignition switch lock cylinder to remove it from the housing of the steering column.
Installation
  1. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder by turning it to the RUN position and depressing the retaining pin. Insert the ignition switch lock cylinder into the steering column housing. Make sure the ignition switch lock cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will permit the retaining pin of the ignition switch lock cylinder to extend into the hole of the steering column.
  1. Using the key, rotate the ignition switch lock cylinder to make sure of correct mechanical operation in all positions.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ignition Switch Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Remove the upper steering column shroud (3530) by removing the four or five self-tapping screws. Remove key release lever (3F527) (if equipped).
  1. Remove lower steering column shroud.
  1. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  1. Rotate ignition switch lock cylinder (11582) to the RUN position.
  1. Remove the two screws retaining ignition switch (11572).
  1. Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.

1991 Dodge Spirit ignition problem

The "SPRING-BACK" Action is Originated in the Ignition Switch itself (THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH) I think that is where you should Look. On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly. Refer to IGNITION LOCK .
Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair . After procedure has been completed, rearm airbag system.

On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove tilt lever.
  3. Remove three Torx column cover attaching screws, then the upper and lower column covers.
  4. Using tamper proof Torx bit tool No. 440-TX20H or equivalent, remove three ignition switch mounting screws.
  5. Carefully pull switch away from column. Release two connector locks on seven terminal wiring connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
  6. Release connector lock on four terminal connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
  7. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch as follows:
    1. With key inserted and switch in Lock position, use a small screwdriver to depress ignition lock retaining pin flush with lock cylinder surface.
    2. Rotate key clockwise to Off position. Ignition lock should now be unseated from ignition switch assembly. Do not attempt to remove ignition lock at this time.
    3. With ignition lock in unseated position (lock bezel approximately 1/8 inch above halo light ring), rotate key counterclockwise to Lock position, then remove key.
    4. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch.
  1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    1. Connect two wiring connectors to ignition switch. Ensure switch locking tabs are fully seated in connectors.
    2. Install ignition switch on steering column.
    3. On column shift models, shift lever must be in P position and park lock dowel pin on ignition switch assembly must engage with column park lock slider linkage.
    4. On all models, verify ignition switch is in Lock position (flag parallel with ignition switch terminals).
    5. Apply a dab of suitable grease to flag and pin, then position park lock link and slider to mid-travel.
    6. Position ignition switch against lock housing face. Ensure pin is inserted into park link contour slot.
    7. Install ignition switch retaining screws and torque to 12-22 lb-in .
    8. With ignition lock and switch in Lock position, insert ignition lock into ignition switch until it bottoms.
    9. Insert key, then while carefully pushing ignition lock toward ignition switch, turn key clockwise to Run position.
    10. Check for proper operation on ignition switch in all positions.
