I would spend the money to have a good mechanic scope the cyclinder to check for bent valves before you trash the engine . This method is NOT 100 percent to show if the engine was damaged but it may make a decision easier for a low cost

2000 Volvo s80 t6 engine will not start.


I'm too familiar with the T6 engine, but I *think* the T6 engine has the CVVT solenoid right by the exhaust cam and they are known to get weird and you need to clean it.
I believe Volvo has a gasket with a screen in it to keep it clean.

The cam sensors are pretty sturdy and rarely fail, so I'd check that last.

Did this happen right after a timing belt change? If so, I'd double and triple check that you got everything lined up exactly right. My process is usually to use white-out to mark the old belt and gears and then transfer the marks to the new belt and if all marks still line up when it's back together I am good (and yes, it's been good this far hehe).

If it's the CVVT sensor, buy a new gasket, remove the sensor, soak it in carb cleaner and give it a "work-out" with 12 volts if you have a battery charger or whatnot. It's possibly a fresh 9v battery might work too.

If you got any other codes, even if you don't think they're related, they might be.

I wouldn't touch any other systems if the car would run before and now won't, and all you touched is the cam timing and that's the code you got. Fix that first, THEN if you have other issues, you can tackle them.

I have a 2000 volvo s80 T6 and when the engine is cold the transmission shifts fine. When it warms up I have a hard shift with a shutter from 2nd to 3rd worse with more acceleration. Had transmission...


It can be rebuilt and there are some band adjustments that could be done first to see if it fixes the problem. Could be a shift solenoid seal any of a dozens of problems. Is it worth it? What kind of shape is it in? It’s 9 years old and is going to start giving you problems. For instance the transmission cost $3000.00 to rebuild and only get about 50,000 more miles out of it. It is going to need engine repair and electrical repairs. The car is old technology newer cars are running longer and getting better fuel mileage and a lot of car manufactures are talking to mechanic's to help speed up repairs. So can’t tell you what would be best for you that are your choice. It is old enough to start to begin costing you money.

just put a compression gauge on each cylinder that will let you know if engine has a bent valve, gauges are relatively cheap. if the belt didn't have anything to do with your timing belt i doubt you have a bent valve, any check engine light? do you have spark? fuel pump turning on when key is turned to on position?
