How do i change the fuel filter on a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel.

I have a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel. It died and will not start. It cranks but does not fire. I think it may be the fuel filter. I have never owned a diesel before. I need to know how to locate it and the correct method to change it. Could someone please help me?

Fuel filter problems come in slowly as in loss of power. It it just died and will not start I would be looking elsewhere for the problem. A good place to start would be the fault codes to check for cam/crank position sensor faults, immobiliser operation, timing belt condition. If you ran the fuel too low it may have air in the system that will have to be bled out. Best have an accredited diesel shop specialist look at it.

I forgot to mention the acceleration loss and that before I stopped to check the engine; it would barely do 50 mph at full throttle. When I stopped it died. I could still use help locating the fuel filter and how to replace it corretly

The answer to this question is ,the fuel filter is located on pass.side above valve cover on this truck it is a 3 part filter ,the top is the stand it stays put,the middle is the canister filter ,the bottom is the water drain cap ,remove water drain tube first ,remove filter can with water seporater as a unit, then remove the water seporater drain from filter, install on new filter fill that assy.with clean diesel fuel, install that on the tower, now crant till it starts ,may need a spray or 2 of start fluid

people wh advocate the use of start fluid for diesels have no real idea of how a compression ignition engine works . My only advice is that if you want to bend con-rods and put the pistons out the sump the spray liberals of starter fluid when cranking the engine it is the worst suggestion that any one can make..

It sounds like you are talking about a diesel engine as gas engines are self priming. Lift pump or primer pump may be defective. Check for loose fittings or lines and damaged o-rings at filter housing. Sounds like you are sucking air somewhere.
