I do not have any first hand experience with the Nissan Maxima but have pulled a 60 amp fuse in the box under the hood on Chevy trucks. Here is what I found on the web which may be helpful to you. First the link and then the text:
http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/maxima/9112-06-maxima-abs-issue.html

The problem is corrosion in the rear hubs is causing the sensors to be pushed out of alignment with the sensor ring. DO NOT continue to drive the car with this problem. It will burn out the abs controller. That part costs $1300.00. First thing you should do is open the hood of the vehicle and follow the wire for the right front abs sensor. You will see a plug above where the motor mount connects to the passenger inner fender area. Unplug that connector. It will disable the abs system so the pump will stop running.

If you are mechanically inclined you could repair this. The rear hubs need to be removed and cleaned. Also the plastic cap behind the hub needs to be modified. After removing the hub you will be able to remove the plastic cap behind it. You will see a hole in the cap where the sensor goes through it. Cut the top portion of the cap so the hole looks like a U and reinstall it. Clean the corrosion around the bearing mating surfaces and reinstall the rest of the parts. Do this for both rear wheels. Be sure to reconnect the front sensor after the repairs are made. You will need to have the codes cleared after repairing. __________________

SOURCE: Do the 94' nissan maxima have abs brakes

ABS was optional as an add-on for the GXE Model so I can't say whether you have them or not based on the model. When you turn your key to the on position before starting the car, if you see an ABS light, then your car will have abs. If there is no light, then most likely you do not have abs.

Do you have instructions on how to disconnect the ABS? I have had brake problems with a 2004 Maxima at least every two years. Just replace rotors and pad a year ago so we know it's not that. I am sick of...

Removing the ABS fuse will disable the ABS, but it is not recommended. What sort of problem are you having? ABS only acts when the system detects a wheel locking up, if there s a problem with the ABS holding the brakes on, disabling it will not fix the problem. If you intend on removing the ABS system altogether, you need to have this done properly, if you are even allowed to in your area. Here in New Zealand, if the ABS is removed the vehicle has to go through a certifying process to ensure it is still safe. If the brakes are actually sticking on, you would smell a burning smell after driving the vehicle. Have the pedal clearance checked under the dashboard, if it is too far adjusted, once the brake warm up it will hold them on.

2004 Nissan Maxima ABS pump keeps running when ignition is off

the module is bad. needs a new abs pump. to temporary remedy it find the pump and disconnect its plug. be careful as the abs now is not working ( not that it was before) and incase of full breaking car will lock and slide tires. take it to a shop to get replaced.

I have a 92 nissan maxima that is leaking brake fluid directly from the anti-lock brake system, the system where all brake lines come together. When the brake is pumped a tiny bit fluid shoots out.

you may have to replace the abs controller thats leaking, you must clean it off and then pump the brake pedal and watch for the leak, if its coming from the lines then they can be thightened, but if its from the housing of the unit then you have to replace it. hope this helps.

Help

It means there is a fault in the brakes/anti lock braking system. This should be immediately seen to by a mechanic. It may be best to have a mobile mechanic come, or to tow it to a service centre (might not be best to drive)
